Pick up the shoe, or whatever, and read the label. The label will say where the article is made.

Yes, most of the shoes where I shopped were made in China, Cambodia or Vietnam. There was a similar pair to mine that were on display with a USA label, but the ones in my size that they brought out of the back were Chinese. I then found another display pair I bought with a USA label and the ones they brought out also had a USA label and those are the ones I bought. I have been very happy with them.

They were bought (saved) by VW in 1994.

This! If you look at the components, they have Skoda, VW and Audi Logos on them

Okay, then that explains why the cars I saw made a good impression on me. They were virtually a Volkswagen. Although not my personal favorite, certainly more solid than an iron curtain Skoda.

I actually did take one. I went through all my pictures and tossed most of them due to poor quality or irrelevance.... not sure if I still have it.

Found this one on line. It was a Trabant, not a Skoda. Same crap though.
