I would think you'd be lucky to kill a squirrel with any consistency with an air gun. I had trouble killing pigeons with one, though if you hit them in the head or neck it was lethal. Would not penetrate the wings though to get any vitals.

Some air guns exceed 1200 fps. last summer I had blue jays attacking me while hanging laundry. relentlessly. I got tired of wearing the safety glasses and hard hat. Swinging the rake was a fools errand. They would stage in tree tops then launch straight at my head wings tucked and claw me. .177 air pistol was perfect given their straight at me line of flight to my sights. poof! blue feathers everywhere. kinda kool shooting them on their strafing run.

I did when I was a kid, but not with a good success record. It takes a head shot and my pellet gun wasn’t rifled. I expect that none of them are.

A.22 air gun can do it, but I only had a .177.

The pop bottle silencer sounds great. Can’t wait to try it.

Edit:

Got to thinking. How the heck will you be able to see the sights with a pop bottle over the end of the barrel?

I expect so. Is it illegal to possess an empty plastic pop bottle?

I expect that forcing a pellet down a rifled barrel would scrub off a good bit of velocity.

Which is why muzzle velocity is measured at ... not sure how to put this .. exiting the muzzle. like for any firearm.

I know where it’s measured. What does that have to do with my comment?

When you learn more about guns maybe you will be capable of understanding it.
