Good paying jobs in Midland TX

I know several heavy equipment operators who work 7/7 and are having more offers from competitors trying to hire. The same for welders, especially with pipewelding certificate. All of the services companies are desperate for employees. Even at the wellhead https://www.oilfieldjobshop.com/job/now-hiring-all-drilling-positions-for-tx-rig-man-camp-per-diem-14-14/

The oilfield is traditionally high paying and nonunion. It has a devastating boom and bust cycle. Not a good place for people who don’t know how to save for rough times.

Sorry.

Ain’t going to Texas to work.

Sittin’ right here in Naples Florida spending the kid’s inheritance.

You can make bank on the oilfields but it comes at the price of workplace danger, loneliness/isolation and job to job insecurity as lots of those guys are contractors. You could do worse. I considered it back in the 2009 slump.

It actually costs less than at first blush. I put my club membership on hold, my wife is not going to her trainer, we put our cable package on hold, and the cleaning lady is not cleaning every other week. That adds up to almost a grand in outlays right there.

And no state taxes.

Roughneck Work

Yes, it's good money but zero job future and if you get hurt which is more likely than not, you're triple screwed .

Plus of course, even if you <magically> manage to not get injured / killed your life expectancy is cut by 1/3 .

Still and all, a careful worker and good planner can make this a good thing by living cheaply and $aving for the future .

So far I've beat the odds but am waiting for the inevitable cancer to come plus I'm broken in ways you'd rather not know about and the endless pain isn't much fun .

And I chose a "safer" (?) career as a Journeyman mechanic .

I left in the early 1980’s. There are some things I miss: nice fat paychecks; working with a crew of good men; late nights and early sunrises; fat paychecks; lots of travel; feeling of accomplishment seeing a rig go up on a line I surveyed; fat paychecks.

Things I don’t miss: Lots of travel; late nights and early mornings; working with guys who partied HARD; seeing a rig go up and fat paychecks.

I don’t miss it very much, either. But I’d do it again if I was entry level. And young.

Work

It's a sad thing that 'work will set you free' was ruined by bad people because my Blue Collar work ethic has allowed me to enjoy a happy & fulfilled life .

I was white collar, my father was white collar, his father wore a clerical collar.

I too enjoy a happy and fulfilling life. I don’t really think it is about the type of collar.

Collar or Noose

Correct ~ the color matters not, it's the work ethic you bring to the job and thereby life itself .

White Collar works, like Clerical, are both hard jobs too, just different .

Faith will provide miracles but be prepared with a shovel .
