We've had plenty of discussions here about the incompetence of some 911 operators. Here's some inexpensive advice:

If you or a family member is faced with a real world medical emergency, dial the local hospital or ambulance service DIRECTLY and ask them to dispatch an ambulance to the home or business where the patient is located.

Speaking with government trained goons at the 911 so-called "help desk" might just get you killed. Yes, we are all aware that not all of them are idiots, but if your life is on the line, you just might dial up and get to talk to one. Good luck.

Mistakes happen. There is no reason to believe that the same thing could not have happened if the hospital was called directly.

Do us all a favor and try and not listen to the voices in your head. They are not doing us or you any favors.

Imagine trying to look up the phone numbers of local hospitals and ambulance services while Grandpa is turning blue trying to hack up a chicken bone...911 was developed for a reason...

Nobody likes being told what to do, and everybody likes being in charge. Things go to **** when idiots don't like being told what to do and like being in charge. This is a perfect example.

Ambulances are not permitted to dispatch themselves. They must be dispatched by the 911 operator. If you call a rescue squad directly for less than a life-threatening emergency, they will tell you to hang up and call 911. Even if you call a hospital directly, most do not have their own ambulances.

A direct call to say, a rescue squad, may get a truck dispatched for a bona-fide emergency such as a cardiac arrest but they will then call the 911 dispatcher to make it official.

Of course, they may drag their feet when they find out it is merc lover calling.

Might be best to learn CPR and buy yourself a defibrillator. One thing for sure, your balls might not win by playing "911 russian roulette".

BTW, let's not forget this one, 34 minute delay by a 911 SUPERVISOR no less.

Or better yet dial 1 for heart attacks, 2 for strokes, 3 for gunshots, etc... you get the idea. One thing about living way out in the woods is that if you get bitten by a young rattler you are pretty much screwed.

This thread reminds yet again of some people's unwillingness to face FACTS.

Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with a very intelligent retired black man. He was well spoken and financially well heeled. We discussed various social and political issues and then he said something that stopped me in my tracks.

He said every time he gets in his car to go to the store, the doctor, wherever, he worries that a cop who just had a fight with his wife the night before might pull him over for no reason other than he is black and then proceed to TAKE IT OUT ON HIM.

Just like 911 operators, you NEVER know for sure what you are going to get, right? Good luck out there, you are going to need it.

If he has, he can prove whether or not talking to a moron can kill someone!
