Happy things in these days

Some of my old back to the land hippie buddies up in remote Eastern WA, several ladies are making masks out of fabric they can identify as suitable for masks. They use them themselves and donate many to the local hospital district which sanitizes them and uses them for lower risk contacts. Are reputed to be quite a bit better than nothing.

Thumbs up Kudos !

Nice to see good things happening .

I wonder where all the cloth masks I see folks wearing 'round L.A. are bought ? .

My son tells me I should buy some and wear when shopping but i have no idea where in L.A. as I shun crowds and shopping etc. as a normal thing .

Local sail lofts here are making cleanable face shields out of boat window material. I think this might be a national initiative. It seems many many businesses with sewing capacity are being called on to produce PPE we are sadly lacking which is great

I suggested they make an instruction video on making them (there are many now) and use the vid to sell them mail order. They also need to pay bills, I would buy them for maybe $5 apiece. Could give them to friends, mail them to family.

I told her if she was going strictly on a donation basis I'd be reluctant to ask for 10.

I will give Trump credit for suggesting they sanitize them. They are saying that soap dissolves the outer layer of the virus, that's why washing hands works so well. Hard to imagine that washing in enough soap and then drying at 150F (virus killing temp) wouldn't make such a mask way better than nothing.

I could email my friend and see if she'll mail you some. What do you think is a fair price? I don't know how long it takes to make them.

Who knows. If it's better than nothing.

Wouldn't hurt to get one of these. ALso good for fire season smoke, not sure if that's an issue in your area. Much better than the paper masks. You can't smell cigarette smoke or acetone wearing one of these.

Rated P100, better than N95. Most are from China now, the ebay ads sell out quick. Search for 3M 6500 half mask, 6200 seems to be the same thing, 2091 or 2097 filters, the latter slightly better. I use medium size, seems to work for most people.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-6200-Half-Facepiece-Respirator-W-3M-2091-P-100-Filters-Size-Medium-IN-STOCK/274319406936?_trkparms=aid%3D1110004%26algo%3DSPLICE.COMP%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20200220094952%26meid%3D9 dcb1e8df0764d65987f04e057b64660%26pid%3D100008%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D333562450190% 26itm%3D274319406936%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3Ddefault%26brand%3D3M&_trksid=p2047675.c100008.m2219

Welding supply stores might have them, doesn't hurt to check.
