Selling a car long distance questions.

I have a 1983 Volvo listed for sale that someone from out of state wants to buy. What is the safest way of to handle the transfer of the funds? He mentioned a bank wire transfer. I’m not sure that giving out information that would allow that would be safe. There is always a cashiers check, but I would have to hold the car
For weeks to make sure it was real. Looking for any ideas and perspective. Thanks.

PayPal? Maybe just say cash only as always and let the guy figure it out. You don’t need to make special accommodations

Talk to your bank. Maybe they can contact the buyers bank, or can check if a bank tellers check is legit. I would not give any stranger a routing number.

^. This. See if your bank can deal with his bank, and verify receipt of funds first.

Last one I sold went to Chicago and buyer never saw car till he got it. He paid 100% thru paypal within three days of end of ebay auction. It was a couple weeks later that the shipping company picked it up and delivered it.

I always use bank wire transfers whether an out of state or local sale. Providing your account number and bank routing number in no way would allow someone to access your bank account. When the transfer is completed, verify with your bank that the funds are in your account before releasing the car or title. Caution: there are a lot of counterfeit cashiers checks and cash in circulation.

Giving your bank and routing number is never safe. PayPal you or the deal is off. Or he appears in front of you with cash.

For me it is cash or wire transfer only.

When I sold my old Ferrari to a well financed fellow in England it all came by wire prior to letting the car go. Some came from England and some from Portugal. There was a bit of feet shuffling there to avoid taxes on his part.

I worked with him but did not commit fraud.
