From my perspective here at the coast tourists have started to return. Even on the week days. Maybe it's people out of work. Most of the tourist oriented business are closed except for a few restaurants offering take out. The state parks are closed but the beaches are open.

Does a bear live in the woods? You betcha it’s a stick! It’s a 2000 F150, 4.6, Regular Cab, 4x4, 5 speed. When I bought it, there were very few V8, 4x4 sticks made. I went from far NE Texas all the way to Houston to get it. I use it only when I need a truck so now it only has 128,000 miles and in good shape.

If you’re implying that I am breaking the law by going fishing you have no idea what you’re talking about. When you find that law send it to me and I will cease immediately. In FACT the Governor in his statement made it specifically clear that he was not curtailing hunting or fishing.

Apparently not. The governor knew better. First of all he knows that hunting and fishing means being away from others as well as lots of fresh air. Secondly (this part is a joke) if the governor shuts down hunting and fishing in Texas the bullets will start peppering his office wall.

About the only thing that will be hazardous about my fishing will be fueling up the truck and boat meaning I have to handle the gas pump. I do that with nitrile gloves. Also, I fish with artificial bait so I don’t need to interact with anyone at the bait house.

The point you are missing is that being out and about and encountering other people is what will make absolutely certain we are dealing with this crap for the rest of the year. Especially for you, a member of the high risk group.

You are not alone, millions of people are ignoring the lockdown requirements which differ by state of course. The stats for my state are something like 60% of people are not observing non essential activity outside the house emergency rules.

Starting a new hobby, buying new equipment, making sure you are out travelling around with it, getting gas more often, ect. You are increasing your chances of virus transfer. Now it wouldn't be a problem were it just a few people, where it becomes a problem is when 20 million larrys decide they are going to take up bass fishing during the crisis, and an unknown percent of them are carriers of the virus with no symptoms.

Thanks Frank! You know what they say. A bad day fishing is better than a good day working.

A funny thing happened yesterday. I forgot that my doctor was supposed to call me at ten AM for a FaceTime in place of my annual physical. I had flown around sightseeing over the lake and was fueling the plane at the self service pump when he called. I answered and we started talking. He has been my doctor ever since he got out of the Army twenty years ago, so we are friends and both former GI’s. He asked if I had anything going on and I told I was having trouble with my hand and he wanted me to show him which joint. We talked about that and then he wanted me to show him my plane. I did and he said that me being retired and having fun is why all my numbers are good, no stress, no work, just flying and enjoying myself. He said he thought he would enjoy retirement. I then told him I was going fishing in the afternoon. He then asked if I had a sense of humor and I told him that he knows I do. He then said okay I need to show you the finger joint I’m having trouble with. He then held up his middle finger.

I’m really fortunate that my wife and I have safe things to do outside the house.

No, YOU are not getting it. I am not within fifty feet of ANYONE and I am OUTDOORS in any of these activities. I’m pumping my own gas with a nitrile glove and what supplies I buy, which has been nothing so far, I buy online. I walk around the outside of my daughters lake house to get to the boat house with no contact with them. When at the lake I am rarely closer than a quarter mile from anyone and am outdoors.

I am getting the idea that there are some city people on here that don’t understand there are places where you don’t have to live on top of one another. With my flying and fishing activities I am not in a position to endanger myself or anyone else. If I were, I wouldn’t be doing it.

Reminds me of a guy from inner city Philadelphia that I was in the Army with. He refused to believe that there was anywhere in the US that you could average 50MPH or more. He came from a different environment and didn’t have enough breadth of mind to understand that there are different places and environments on Earth.

Oh boy, here we go with the "city people" baloney again.

Look Larry, you go ahead and do what you are going to do, like the thousands of people going on hikes all at the same time and having to pass face to face within a few feet on trails.
Just remember that in the unfortunate circumstance of you happening to catch this, its the other millions of people deciding they know more than the WHO and CDC who also ensure a spike in cases meaning potential issues getting treatment if needed. Theres a reason this country is now leading the world in cases, its because we are too damn arrogant to listen to experts. This is more of the same.

Rural areas are being hit just as hard in places, and thats only going to get worse. They lack the medical infrastructure found in cities unfortunately.

I work an essential job and am constantly in rural areas amazed at how few people are taking this seriously, especially older people out in the boonies. "Cant happen to me" is the call to arms.

We are encouraged to go outside here. I have done two walks today with child and grandchildren. We don't touch skin to skin and keep our distance of 6'. The state parks are even open for hiking but most services are shut down. There is no charge at the gate, just drive in.
