You made the claim. Back it up. Provide some data. ANY DATA. Prove you were there. Prove you knew the people. Prove you were privy to information that could have changed the outcome of their decisions. Do that, and I'll go away and happily admit you were 100% right. Until then, I'm going to keep right on calling you out on your BLATANT LIES.

Geez, look at your own government for god's sake. They take money from the sheeple (that would be you and me Kemosahbee) in the form of taxes and then blow it on the world's stupidest projects and people.

I'm not talking about the government. Stop deflecting and provide some proof to back up the claims you made. This used to be a thread about laptops for astronomy that were NOT a Macintosh platform. You felt that was too pedestrian and took us down one of your delusional rabbit holes as usual. Just the facts Ma'am...

I doubt there's enough money in the world to get him laid. By anybody.

Dell seems very much targeted on big accounts. When I was in fedgov we had to write-up excuses NOT to buy a Dell. But Dell offered a good array of different configurations and our geek department was familiar with them. I bought several killer workstations for GIS and image processing. Had to prove I needed Panasonic Toughbooks for field work.

Iirc Lenovo used to be IBM. For me, that’s a psychological plus. Dunno if it means anything 30-odd years later. People online like Lenovo price/performance.

They're in the same league as Apple as far as the build quality and longevity goes, not to mention spare parts are available long after production ends since they're very popular with corporate users (due to their durability).

Dell tends to get a lot of praise from people who don't have to service them. They're not well built, they don't perform well, they don't last as long as their competition, and the hardware is often inferior or "dumbed down" out of the box. You'll pay more money for a lesser machine.
Ah. Great information based on experience. Thanks.

You busted me! Yeah, I’ve lost my mind. Hopefully in a good way.

Exactly.

Plus, if wanted a general purpose laptop I’d stay in the Mac fold. That’s all I’ve owned personally since my Apple //+.

I used to use Unix and could put myself through the misery of going with a public domain OS, but ... nah.

From work I used Windows since 3.1.1. But stopped at Win 7 so I’ll have a learning curve.

Just for fun I’m considering Raspberry Pi to run devices. That would address my will to tinker.

Lenovo made IBM's laptops and workstations at least since the mid-late 1990s, possibly earlier. The machines that gave IBM the reputation for toughness and reliability were all Lenovo beneath the skin. When IBM divested their consumer division, Lenovo bought the rights to the Thinkpad and Thinkcentre lines and kept right on building them. The "Thinkpad/Centre" models produced by Lenovo today are very much the descendants of the IBM's you remember (which were actually Lenovos).

You'll adapt quickly to win10 if you are familiar through 7, plus there is also a "classic" theme that makes it look and function like the older platforms. The standard win10 interface is more designed to compete with a macOS-type UI, and I have grown to quite like it over time. The earlier win8 versions were awful but they have really improved it at this point.

If you want or need to mess with unix, just dual boot with a linux distro on the windows machine.

I had a Panasonic Toughbook at one time. It is tough. I lift it on the back of my truck and drove away. It fell off on a curve with no damage.

You are buying the OS, the hardware merely supports it.
