Someone please talk me out of it

Hey all! So it's been awhile since I've been on this site and sadly the last Mercedes I owned I sold in 2015...however.....that Mercedes desire that we all know never goes away and I have wanted another one.

I found this craigslist ad local to me and at $1,500, a wagon (which I have always wanted) WITH 4matic AND heated seats which would be great for the winters here in Anchorage is having my fingers itching to call up that number and ask to see it.

The listing besides being written all in caps sounds a bit wonky saying it runs great but needs "minor adjustments" I know the old saying "nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes" but just when I tell myself "nah" the thought of me driving on the road with it pops into my mind and I keep looking back at the pictures! Help!

I can understand the temptation. The body looks pretty nice, the interior as well. I've had no experience with Mercedes gas motors. OTOH, I took my first BMW 325i to 450K, so there a German gas motor with longevity.

A compression test would be nice, not sure how much that would cost. Would probably need to take it to a garage to be expedient. Who knows, might also get some insight on the other issues. Not sure if it would be worth the price.

Barring that, if a seat of the pants driving test - does it feel strong without weird rattles - might be enough to put me over the top.

And right in the ad he more or less said that he expects an offer. Who knows, $1200 might swing it.

I attribute the oddness of the ad to the midnight sun. For that price, he's right. Tons of useful parts in the worst case.

Make sure you check out the SLS rear, hydraulics are becoming htf and very expensive. Since he's talking about vacuum, I'll make the leap and suggest checking out the transmission. I bet it shifts hard, but as long as it goes into all four gears it's likely an adjustment.

Extremely doubtful that the HS and 4-Magic still work......

Thanks for all the input everyone with your help I have decided not to pursue THANK YOU hahaha and on that note not to pursue the 4matics and wagons in the future because of the HS and Transfer case issues they tend to have especially at high mileage so I'll have my heart set on a w124 300E manual for my future Mercedes

Also the midnight sun comment cracked me up LOL

I took my ‘88 stick shift 300 E to almost 400,000 miles before giving up on it. The KE injection is just a bear to keep running and the a/c has its challenges. If I could find one a really nice M104 car for cheap I might could be tempted.

I could get that for you for half the listed price if time is not issue (shipping by sea).
