Officers break in not wearing uniforms. Saying they are police or they are not heard. What outcome is to be suspected? No doubt they had their guns out. Had they been in uniform this may not have occurred.


This to me this was a flaw in police proceedure. I do not think race was much a component if any in this situation.

From what I have seen when the wear civilian clothing they wear the bullet proof vest over the outside of them and the Vest has POLICE or FBI or what ever on it.
The typical uniformed Police wear the vest under their uniform.

They did not go in guns blazing. Their weapons were drawn but they did not fire till fired upon. That does not make it okay. By most accounts they went in unannounced and they went into a home where no criminal activity took place. I do not know much about police tactics but I would think if you are going to go into a home like that, a concussion device or flash/bang would be appropriate to avoid this outcome.

From all accounts, the cops screwed the pooch and the DA seems to be helping them get away with it.

Captain Obvious: Take off their badges and uniforms and what they did is called 'home invasion'. Awhile back I heard a radio interview involving a south carolina police officer who finally got a conscience and QUITE the force.

He said he finally realized that everything he did to people all day long was assault or assault and battery. If he did those things to people MINUS a badge and uniform he would be arrested immediately and hauled off to jail.

Imagine that.

This is why your entrance way needs 2 doors. The first breech is notification. the second door is better and is difficult to figure out and even harder to breech. Really puts a damper on the surprise aspect. AS to race ... the cops undoubtedly had a description ....

I probably read more than I should; two items of note legally:


1. The mere presence of a door bell indicates an "invitation to enter".


I thought that was bad enough but then also read recently;


2. The mere presence of a FRONT ENTRY DOOR is also an invitation to enter.


My next house will NOT have a front entry door.

David, I truly really wish my being stupid was reality in this case. Unfortunately, I'd suggest putting on your 'going in deep to research the matter' shoes and dig in. There is an old saying: Ignorance of the law is NO EXCUSE. Just because David believes there is no legal import to having a door bell attached to a FRONT DOOR or simply having a FRONT DOOR doesn't make it so.

After confirming the facts, I disconnected my door bell and have noticed a dramatic reduction in callers. Though not 100%, I am installing a security door as well.

Why do you think SWAT teams use battering rams to come through the (drum roll, are you ready for it???) FRONT DOOR TO YOUR HOUSE?????? In nine out of ten cases, home burglars choose to kick down the (drum roll, are you ready for it???) FRONT DOOR TO YOUR HOUSE. Geez, could there be something to the front door issue?
