Question Cleaning Fine Desert Sand From the Dashboard

I just spent a few days driving around Death Valley and there were some serious (and beautiful) wind storms so now the dashboard and door jambs, etc. (everything !) are all coated with super fine sugar sand ~ wiping it just makes it go in circles, how the heck do I clean this mess ? .

TIA,

Im in Bakersfield I deal with this dust everyday. I usually take the shop vac with a toothbrush. Suck up as your cleaning the hard to get stuff. Also take a Moist soapy rag and wipe everything down. Most likely you need the shop vac even with the rag to suck it up.

If you use a rag I think you need them to be soaking wet and have a lot of them. The water should help float the sand away and lubricants to prevent scratching. Hope this helps.

The California car dusters do a pretty good job. I keep one of the "mini's" in the glove compartment.

Post Cleaning Dusty Sand

Thanx guys ! .

The scratching up is my biggest worry, especially on the clear dash binnacle lens I took out & apart t clean and hand polish until it was once again like glass, this before I headed to Death Valley and a serious windstorm .

I used to have a California duster but never used it fearing it'd collect abrasive dust...

If I can find it I'll give it a try .

I was thinking maybe micro fiber cloths and a plastic bucket of clean water for the first go .

I've been busy so I've not yet touched it .

The older I get, the faster everything seems to go .

Thumbs up Cleaned !

O.K., in the end I used the round upholstery brush on my small tank vacuum, this got a whole lot of the sand gone, then I used a clean microfiber towel and then I used another two microfiber towels with Meguiar's # 40 plastic / leather cleaner conditioner ~ this is stuff I discovered early on in my L.A.P.D. career ~ when used properly it cleans and rejuvenates plastic , vinyl and so one to like new status .

This turned out to be an all day cleaning project, the dash looked so good I took the door cards off and cleaned them inside and out and the painted doors, seals and so on too .

Then I got over enthused and unloaded the cab underneath & behind the seats and go out my brushes, I cleaned this truck like it's never been cleaned before, I even raised up the passenger side rubber mat and discovered long ago spilled coffee and some gravel, got that all looking like new and only need to do underneath the driver's side carpet and dismount the driver's seat belt so I can wash all the sweat and grime out of it .

Taking the time to do the little things makes you enjoy your vehicle ever so much more when you're done .

Now I want to hunt up some factory rear speakers and harness', I already sourced a factory CD / cassette player and installed it, in the city that's good anti - theft protection, no one wants the factory sound systems and they play well and sound great .
