Catalytic converter protection

Had some crackheads looking under my Jeep earlier today. Guessing they might come back for the converter. I have a pretty rigid skid plate protecting the exhaust but I’m still worried. Anyone have any diy ideas that will prevent cat theft?

1. Motion sensor to alert you when they arrive.
2. Remote start the engine after they crawl underneath......

Secure the vehicle better when not in use.At least until the suspect current possible threat has passed. At least you saw them looking at it.

You might also secure a plate over the area with security type fasteners they cannot easily defeat. Otherwise with a battery powered recipricating saw they can probably remove it in two minutes. If you are the only occupant of a parking place. A heavy enough object you drive over. To deny them access to that area of the vehicle might be considered.Or dig two shallow trenches to drive into. Denying them enough room to get under the vehicle.Hard to say what is practicle and workable in any given situation.

I did not think people did that anymore. Are cats pretty inexpensive now? I guess if it's worth something someone will take it. A while back I heard someone took a brass valve worth probably $20 in brass from a holding tank and caused $500k in damage.

Not in California. I’m told the tweakers can get $200-$300 For them. It’s mostly the undocumented recycling yards that buy it.. and law enforcement doesn’t carE too much. If I had to replace a cat with the special certified California cat it’ll cost me over $1000 not including the damage that they might cause.

As with crime in general their take is way less that the problem the deliver.

But about this problem. Big poster in the rear screen easily visible. $50 reward to anyone that can defuse the C4 bomb on my converter. $2000 reward to anyone that ID the guy that tried

Post NRA Stickers

You'd have to be stupid to display these ~ they tell crooks your house is #1 in their breakin list .

Some good deterrents listed here, we used to electrify vehicles that feral cats were pissing on, it worked really well .

Too bad you're not allowed to shoot crackheads on sight .

We used to have a crack house across the street, they'd mangle the vehicles to get a $5 radio .

My dad did that with drunk sailors. A friend of his had a shop in downtown Norfolk. The front door was about ten feet back from the front of the store. With glass display cases between the storefront and the front door. Drunk sailor would piss in the entrance before catching a bus back to the naval base. My dad and his friend put down a big mat and ran wires under it, and hooked them up to car batteries. They'd wait until some sailor started pissinng and hit the switch.

I have a hard rule that all my cars are in a garage. I currently rent a $140/month u-stor-it shed to garage a 2007 Chevy Cobalt worth about $2k. ... money well spent.

Man that’s annoying. It’s hard to tell in the pictures with your camera’s night setting, but do you have motion activated lights in he driveway? If not, you may want to consider them for starters. The idea of something that alerts you I like too, especially if you can remote start the car, beep the horn, or set off the car alarm with your remote if they show up again. Good luck.

Many (most ) trail type cams have IR night vision, and there are cell cams that send you the photos real time.

On one of the hunting sites there was a guy seen trespassing in then later out dragging a pre-season poached giant buck. Next photo was him sitting in the wardens office giving the finger to the cam
