Who ever purchased Nissan. Had spent a fortune putting up a new plant for their own transmission. A french firm I believe. The stuck those transmissions in Nissans.

They have a really bad name. The Nissan you had the failed transmission in may have been an earlier transmission. Nissan no longer has much of a name around here and have been close to insolvency again. I read somewhere. Two hundred K would be a respectable lifespan for the bad transmissions.

Not a Japanese brand that comes to mind to buy. Resale prices are not strong around here on them either. When I mentioned a ton of miles it related to the time frame accumulated in. With a very harsh driver. Being the son in law. Same automatic as on their weaker non turbo four cylinder engines.

I'm of the opinion that you can take any German transmission and run it to 200k without servicing it and it will be fine. I suspect that was the case with the Rouge tranny too. If I were to run one to 200k without service I would assume spending on a rebuild anytime from there on.

I understand Honda does have an oil change interval on their CVT. In regards to the Nissan I read that the dealers supposedly "tested" the oil to determine if a change was needed and typically sent the customers on their way. That is what I read a couple of years ago.

Thanx Jim ;

For now it's in the garage airing out, happily I was able to drive my truck again to - day on errands .

SWMBO says she wants to fix the broken wooden side gate next, I hope she greenlights the AC repairs before it gets hot ~ no Mechanic likes working on hot cars on hot days...

Honda did have a large issue with their air conditioning systems part failure. Leakage from their evaporators? I do not remember. I doubt Honda is still covering the issue. No harm in checking though. I believe the size of the problem was signifigant. Most failed early.

I also do not know the year that Honda started using a really expensive newer type of freon. Hopefully that car is still a 134 type.

Make sure to talk to Honda about the air conditioning. Bad if you miss a free bee. Not a lot of chance of course.

Yet a Honda's air conditioning going out sometime before 20K. It smells like one of them that did. So many went out was a six to eight week wait for the part.

Thumbs up She Likes It !

Okay ;

To - day I had to drive clear across Los Angeles to get some things, I asked SWMBO would she go with e in the Honda ? .

She opened the door and looked at the now reasonably clean seats and said 'I don't think we'll be needing seat covers' .

She likes it more or less, it's too low for oldsters like us makes the knees complain when getting in or out .

It's also absurdly low to the pavement, it scrapes on any driveway .

I think she's scared of all the modern bits on it ~ the park brake is a button and the steering wheel has controls to change the radio or connect the blue tooth and cell 'phone, I plugged up my cell but couldn't figure out how to connect it .

There are four or five older cell 'phones in the car's directory, I see now way to delete them .

Oh, well .

It runs fine and if I give it the whip it takes off like a gun, she's afraid of that aspect .

We went to the Honda dealer but she's afraid to get out of the car (wise woman I think) so I'll have to look on line for some missing under engine covers / baffles...

She still owes $9K on it, if she's not going to drive it I hope she'll let me get rid of it .

Even before I got older the civic models where a little harder to get in and out of. Still overall a decently made and reliable vehicle.

Okay I went and looked. Seems 2016-2019 civics had the issue. I was wrong it was a failure of the condensors. Not the evaporators.

Good news perhaps for our member that tries to be so helpful. Warranty extended to 10 years by Honda. Assume without knowing if it was the condensor that went bad the whole job is covered.

Their Civics condensor is highly suspect as the system went out sometime before 20K I imagine. I hope he can save a dollar from this information. I might need a loan someday.

He could put a little of the required type freon in the system and verify with a sniffer the condensor is the problem perhaps. I also assume without knowing that civic may use the very expensive type freon. Not 134 unless the price has come down. Probably a sticker under the hood.

If he gets her cellphone connected he would not be able to pry the car away from her. Is almost a sure thing.

Thumbs up GREAT NEWS !

THANK YOU kind Sir ! .

I've been offline a few days, I don't have internet access @ home and the local $tarbuck$ have all closed up the WiFi....

I tried to make my cell 'phone connect, no dice .

My Sweet won't touch the cell 'phone when she's driving .

I'll go look up 2016 Honda Civic recalls.....

Might take a few days, I'm off to search for more 1979 Dodge D200 truck parts again to - morrow .

I do not think it is a recall. Just a warrranty extension for the air conditioning system. If it fails before the ten years they just fix it free.

Just call a dealer. I read the warranty extension is in place for all the 2016-2019 civics. Strange it took them 4 years to stop making a lot of faulty condensors.

Unhappy Dammit

I found a Honda TSB that says the AC condenser is covered by warranty, took it to the dealer we bought it from and they refused to touch it because the front bumper was scratched in a parking lot....

The TSB says 'no coverage on totaled vehicles', they don't want to do it for the crappy warranty payment Honda NA gives them .

How do I know this ? .

Apart from having been a dealer Mechanic long ago, they want to charge me $179 to 'diagnose it' ~ if they know it was damaged in the frontal scrape (it wasn't, the AC quit long before that) they'd know what the problem is...

I hate dishonest dealers but we were driving it today and it was hot in there so hopefully they'll give us a reasonable quote....

It's still nice and clean inside but the pot smell lingers a little bit .

Stay tuned .

I'd try another dealer. You have plenty in southern CA don't you?
