DFW weather event.

This polar vortex thing is going to be serious down here. The forecasts range anywhere from 9° to -4°. I have been here since '97 and I do not remember anything even remotely close to this kind of weather. I hope everyone around here has good heating systems and that we do not have a power outage.

OH, this is supposed to go down on Monday.

That is dang cold. Batten down the hatches. From faulty memory the coldest temperature ever in Dallas is -5F around Christmas 1989. That was the year I moved to DFW from San Diego. I almost moved back....

We’re forecast to see 10 down here in the hill country outside Austin. By far the coldest I’ve seen in the years I’ve had a place down here.

We're forecast to hit 7˚ down here. I'm not looking forward to it. Still not as cold as February 2011 though. We had a consecutive 3 days without a temperature above 10˚ and lows in the low-mid single digits. Rolling blackouts, frozen pipes everywhere, broken water mains. It was a mess and I hope this isn't a repeat.

Wish we could get some of that over our way.

Saw some live videos of the pileup...yikes that was tough. Taken from the 3 other lanes that were stopped with miles of fender benders, for some reason all of the folks in the remaining lane thought that wouldnt happen to them?

when I lived in the D/FW area and black ice was reported on the roadways, I called work and told them I was staying home that day.

Here's one; what do you get when you mix a cow patty with LSD?

Answer: A trip to Fort Worth.

We didn't get above zero today. Sunday high temp is going to be -10F. It will be a solid two weeks of -0 temperatures for us ending Wednesday.

Bite your tongue! If you want that kind of weather then drive up to Flagstaff or over to Alpine. Don't wish that kind of misery on the rest of us.

Yes I could go up to Flag but given what is going to happen here in a couple of months I'd prefer getting some of them lower temps right here in the valley before the blast furnace hits.

Seems I underestimated the severity of the event though, if what occured yesterday in DFW is anything to go by. So maybe my initial thought was a bit unrealistic.

If you have water pipes that are inside exterior walls, leave a few faucets running at a fast drip to combat frozen/burst pipes...

I have insulated cap on the two out side faucets. No inside faucets on out side walls.

My concern is power. We have above ground power lines and my fear is with the ice and wind forecast, a limb will take out a power line and we are screwed.

We kept talking about a whole house generator and I think if we survive this we are going.to pull the trigger on one.

Drain the outside faucets. There should be an inside shut off.
