Thanks for that info. I'm guessing I'll get used to it. The fact that I have no trade in value for my SE 1 leads me to think that maybe staying up to speed has advantages. You pay a little more now, get a decent trade in amount later. Can be a hard calculation to make but I'm pretty sure that 2 or 3 days without a working cell could cost me way more than I'm saving by trying to go the ultra economy route. My SE is doing some burps and hiccups that worries me. I've gotten a lot of mileage out of it. Hell, it fell out of my pocket onto a sidewalk, about 10 feet, when I was on a scaffold, this in about Oct. '19 and it is still working. Thanks perhaps to the Otter Box Defender but that's still a hard jarring. Occasional bugs started showing themselves about then.

I’ve done it now, I took the plunge. You’re right, the swipe up is a piece of cake. Not an issue at all. The notched screen at top is a bit weird. The two little bits of space on each side that are gained really aren’t worth it, the blacked out part is bigger and right in the middle of course. It’s a useless gimmick IMO.

That’s about my only complaint so far. I am having some adjustment difficulties, but nothing too serious. I haven’t noticed blazing fast speed which I sort of anticipated. Who knows. I’m pretty sure that there is good capacity that I am leaving unused. I’m going to try to get on top of the benefits of using Siri.

My old SE suddenly started acting totally weird. It would jump pages and just lose it’s mind now and then, spells where I would lose control of it. Oddly enough, when I would take it out of the OtterBox, just using my finger on the naked glass, it would work flawlessly again. But the loose action would come back.

I’m liking the new battery feel. My old SE’s battery was going south in a big way.

I left a few things out. Placing the cursor with the finger is not as good on this one as it was on my old beat up SE. Similarly, voice to text is often not so good. Takes forever sometimes. With headphones, my four year old SE was quite good. So far the 12 mini not as good.

Not sure who I complain to, where I do it, or if it will do the slightest bit of good. There is a lot about the iPhone I like quite a bit, but there are small pockets of really thick headed thinking in that crowd. Will elaborate later.

Your new unit might benefit from personalization learning curve.

Now tell me something I don’t know. I have absolutely no doubt that placement of the cursor with the finger is not the greatest on this phone. Not nearly as good as on my SE. Oh well.

You stumped the panel. Well done.

This is a pretty good phone, I haven’t been tempted to run over it or test its response to a 26 ounce hammer blow.

I’m a bit amazed however that some bugs stick around for so long. One item that’s not an actual bug is gob smacking to me. I gather that the whole voice to text database and the hardware to run it is in the cloud, it’s not on our phones. The computing power needed to do that is huge. Ever since I first used voice to text there have been two words that the powers that be have not seen fit to improve on. Being a construction type dude, I use these words in text halfway often.

The first is Fossett. I’m doing voice to text right now and this name was displayed on screen. The word I wanted was Fossett. Oops, I did it again, I’ll type it out: faucet.

I have never been acquainted with anyone named Fossett. The only person I’m aware of with that name is/was the pilot who was killed in some daredevil thing some years back.

The other word is Apoxsee. I thought I was saying epoxy. Apoxsee, if I can believe the Google, is a ghost town in Florida. Thank God the voice to text people are concerned that some of us might be discussing an obscure ghost town in Florida.

I got a new iPad Pro, and have already gotten used to the swiping.

I have an iPhone 12 mini since a few months now. I had to disable the face recognition to unlock the phone too much of a nuisance. I need to tab 6-digit pin, which is actually really quick. Not that much longer than thumb print recognition on my iPhone 8.
So far I haven't had any hickups. Apps usually work almost flawless compared to the iPhone 8. Loading streaming from youtube is somewhat reliable, but not perfect.
I have the phone setting on LTE, nevermind 5G. I found the in-n-out of LTE vs 5G to be a predicament which lead to hang-ups in work flow.
The swipe works fine, the touch screen seems to be more articulate than on my iPhone 8, but if at all, it's marginal.
Size is handy as usual, I do a majority of handling with one hand, so I need to get my fingers around the device, hold it securely and operate it at the same time.
The somewhat more "square" profile seems to enhance a secure grip. My iPhone 8 is still rounded and seems to slip out of my hand easier.
I am a heavy user, since I work app based. Both phones sit in a clear silicon case, the front is protected with tempered glass screen protector. That's it.

Fossett and faucet are homophones. Accent has nothing to do with it.

Epoxy is commonly pronounced in several ways. Next time you run into someone who needs to use the proper noun Apoxsee in a conversation, you let me know.

Handy hint: use of magnifying glass helps in splitting hairs. Try going voice to text on an iPhone, if you have one. See if you can get it/them to recognize the word “faucet.” One out of every 10 times it will get the correct word. One time I was in a hurry, I spelled it with a W, and it offered a correction: f a u c e t.

I wanted to say “where you been?”

so then you admit being wrong on how the words are properly pronounced.

No, uhh, sorry I did not say that. I have never detected a difference in the way the name Fossett is pronounced compared to the pronunciation of “Fossett” as in kitchen faucet.

The preceding sentence was all voice to text. My guess is that it was spelled the way I wanted it spelled the last time because it was preceded by “kitchen,” serving as a sort of adjective.

It’s a small point, not surprising that you cannot concede it. My argument is hard to beat here. And that argument is that the word Fossett as in bathroom faucet (all voice to text) is going to be used 10 to 20 times as often, a very conservative estimate, as the proper name Fossett. Again, did not have to type out the latter. How many people have you known named Fossett? You might think that the best and brightest at Apple would understand probabilities A little better. Same thing for a proxy. OK, right there it went with a stranger first choice before settling on that. The word I spoke, “epoxy” is almost certainly used in the world a lot more than the two word phrase “a proxy.“ And used, a rough guess, 500 times more often in business or casual conversation as the name of the Florida ghost town “Apoxsee.”

Apoxsee, epoxy, epoxy, Apoxsee.

I could’ve said “testing, testing” before that sentence, or should have maybe. At any rate, it’s getting better on this word. But if you take the first syllable from a long “e” sound slightly in the direction of a short “a” sound, The rocket scientists at Apple who put that part together once again will helpfully conclude that of course, you were referring to the ghost town in Florida which was perhaps featured in motion pictures in a parallel universe or two.

All that said, voice to text is often pretty amazing. Which makes silly annoyances like those I obsessed over right here stand out in sharp relief.
