Pool copper ionizer

Reports are that there will be a chlorine shortage this summer. Been looking at possible alternatives. I saw these ionizer things and have been reading up on them. Some folks seem to like them others not so much. However, the folks who seem not to like them favor traditional pool upkeep methods that involve chlorine which may not be an option so .... anyone here have any input on this?

These are some of the ones I have been looking at.

I've been really happy with our salt based chlorinator system. Super easy.
Never heard of the copper system but a quick search finds a few articles on the working of this device. Interesting device. Look like it has the usual plus and minus of any non-traditional setup. Here is a negative article for 'balance'.

I have read a few other articles of the same or similar opinion. The only problem is that these are old articles and none address the chlorine shortage. I realize these folks may not have liked the ionizer but if there is no/little chlorine available, would their opinion change to..well, this is a good alternative for now.

Bromine works with the added bonus of not having any smell/odor.
It costs a lot more than chlorine but I dont know if its increasing in cost matches chlorine.

I imagine salt system prices are spiking with demand but they really are awesome, at least from my experience. Should be easy to splice into an existing setup. Just add salt and you have chlorine. The water is not salty enough to really detect without a test kit, you can just barely taste it if you have a fresh sample to compare right there.

I have heard both good and bad with salt. Any metal around the pool will start to rust and from what I have read, pool equipment tends to fail prematurely due to corrosion. It is supposed to be easier on maintenance (water chemistry) and better for the skin.

My inlaws are having a new pool put in right now and they went salt so I be able to get first hand experience from them.
