All we have is diesel

A driver leaves BJ’s station looking for gas, after a cyberattack crippled the biggest fuel pipeline in the country, run by Colonial Pipeline, in Norfolk, Virginia, May 11, 2021.

Spot shortages across the most impacted states are rising. According to the latest data from GasBuddy, 15.4% of Georgia fuel stations are wiped out, while almost 60% of stations in the metro Atlanta area are empty.

In North Carolina and South Carolina, 24.8% and 13.4% of stations are empty, respectively. In Virginia, 15% of stations are without fuel.
All it took was one Russian cyber attack.

This might be a good weekend to sell your diesel car.

Don't you love it when twenty two RUG only pumps sit empty while two diesel pumps that also have RUG are occupied with gassers taking on fuel?

Note to self, keep the MB 240D. Do not buy a GEO Metro. And Smile on my way to work.

So, it's Nice to have a Volt,
Or even a Bolt.
Still, some like a Dolt.
Or is that Pes. Dolt.

People being idiotic AGAIN and panic buying something there really isn't a lack of. This is 2021's toilet paper "shortage." (Hint: it's not a shortage, it's just stockpiled in people's garages.)

Yep. I've seen the photos of people filling up IBC totes at the pump, plus all sorts of non flamable approved containers, even clear plastic bags.

Yeesh, at least a half a ton of toilet paper wouldn't burn your house down if you sneezed too hard.

The 2 stations near my house yesterday only had diesel. All out of gas.

Yes I filled up all the cars but they were all approaching 1/4 so not a panic buy.

This has happened a couple times here in Columbia. Once after Katrina in 2005, after another hurricane in the early 201xs and they had some kind of breakdown about 5 years ago. Each time everyone panic buys and drains it dry.

"Don't you love it when twenty two RUG only pumps sit empty while two diesel pumps that also have RUG are occupied with gassers taking on fuel?"

Yep happens every time I go to Sams club. They have 16 pumps. The first column of pumps nearest the entrance has both RUG and diesel. Of course everyone goes for that one first while the two columns on the other side of the shack sit empty.

One time about a couple weeks ago I was waiting for one of the 2 pumps I can use (due to having a filler on the right and the hose is too short for a reach around) and the attendant is yelling at me to go over to the other side. I roll down the window and answer back 'can't its a diesel'. He doesn't believe me at first.

The other good one was a couple years ago a different attendant at that Sams sees me pick up the diesel nozzle and starts running full speed toward me yelling no, no, that's diesel. I just smile and put the nozzle in and smile. He says 'that's going to kill your engine' I said 'no, the other one definitely will.'

And of course traveling messes me up with rental cars, I have to make a conscious effort to be sure to put gasoline in the rental and not diesel.

I've had some comical experiences like this.
We've got the 2 300Ds as well as 2 Cummins trucks for the business.
So any time I fill something, its diesel.

We rented a moving truck to help some friends move. Midway through the trip I hop out at a station on the interstate and I instinctively grab the green handle and start pumping, had a few gallons in and my wife goes uhhhh what kind of fuel are you putting in? I realize and stop, got maybe 4 gallons of diesel into the tank, Filled the other 30ish gallons with gas, finished the trip without issue.

Other times randomly had gas station attendants shut the pump off on me whilst fueling up one of the Mercedes because they see I'm filling with diesel, leading to me having to go inside and explain it is a diesel engine, yes it came that way, no I'm not crazy.

With this current fuel "shortage" several stations in town are limiting purchases to $25 per customer regardless of gas or diesel. That is a big problem with a nearly 40 gallon tank in my work trucks that absolutely drink diesel towing boats around TN hills.

At least I have plenty of other diesels and equipment to siphon out of if need be

A diesel is better for after the apocolypse since can run on all kinds of scavenged fuel, even old motor oil. Somebody should tell the writers of The Walking Dead, as the gang keeps finding gasoline cars which start and run 10 years on.

After our recent ice storm, several stations ran out of gasoline. One station in the town I work in had a backup generator, but were out of gasoline. Internet was down, so no running cards; cash only.

I had cash and they had diesel. Game on.

After almost a week without power, I've been looking much more seriously at building a solar power system. Amazingly capable systems are quite inexpensive now.

Yes, BP with the "Green' handle for gas is ??? . I also had an attendant tell me I was filling with Diesel on my 240D. I pointed to the "DESEIL' on the Trunk. He didn't know some cars had Diesel engines. That was about 2006 or so.
