Feels like very little separates one luxury car from another these days. So many have a 2 liter Turbo, they all have touchscreen Bluetooth navigation. How does one pick one over another?

Reliability ratings?

A friend of mine has a Lexus LX 470 that is a luxury SUV. He's pushing 350,000 miles on it and except for a rusted out brake line he can't remember the last time anything actually needed repair.

We just took it on a 1500 mile round trip and it didn't burn a drop of oil.

His only complaint is the CD player quit working after 19 years.

That's a Toyota truck-truck, not a Toyota car-truck. It was designed to survive 3rd World chaos. (The 3rd World stopped using Land Rovers decades ago.) Toyota trucks are like cockroaches, they'll still be around and working when the human race has pretty much killed itself.

My buddy puts a lot of money in his 1999 Landcruiser, so much money that he spend $30K on a 2005 Lexus LX450 for the longer trips...and wants to make it back home.

Too, many people have a tendency to stay with the brand they get used to. Most things work the same way or are in the same place. Something as simple as adjusting the seats is very different between a Merc and a BMW. The stalks, the wipers, etc.,

IMO, the Germans feel mostly the same, and the Japanese cars too. It has been a long time since I was in a Caddy or a Lincoln.

My next door neighbor, Bubba, has a Toyota Tacoma that's probably twelve years old. People knock on his door out of the blue wanting to buy it.

Toyota of Bubbaville has a fleet of vintage Land Cruisers, sort of a little museum in the dealership. It draws in potential customers for new ones.

One of the best features of newer cars. Always thrilled when the Suburban I rent for work has it.

Father in laws ford suv has it. I was in shorts the first time I road in it and that was my first experience with cooled seats. Must say it does bring back happy memories.

It's a luxury item; discard cold pragmatism and let your whims be your guide...

2nd and 1st Gen Tacoma’s are the pillar of mid size truck reliability. Minus the whole frame rust issue

Love my 2012 Tacoma 4x4, just wish it was diesel.
