CD Players in cars

What is up with cars that don't come with CD players anymore? The multiple CD player was the best thing that ever happened to car audio. I could play my favorite tracks featuring my favorite performers over and over, then jump to the next, etc.

I tried burning a CD onto a thumb drive and the car CD player does not recognize the format.

I hate life.

I agree. Pisses me off big time. I just bought a new car and test drove 8 before deciding. If I'd wanted a CD player it was only available in one of them and I'd have had to buy a much more expensive package to get it. Seems manufacturers have decided all you need is Apple or Android and you'll listen to everything from your phone.

I have hundreds of CD's that I like listening to in my vehicle but if I want to do so again I'll have to buy a used vehicle that either has a CD player or a radio that can be replaced by one.

Like I said. Really pisses me off.

- Peter.

One of the reason I'll hang on to my 98 E300 as long as I can.

Personally, I have had the damndest time trying to find a new car with an 8 track player, its like they dont make them anymore! How am I supposed to play my Kansas greatest hits cartridge?

Most cars these days have aux ports that will accommodate any audio signal. CDs can be converted to digital/medialess pretty easily, and with minimal loss. Analog audio can be converted to lossless FLAC and played on a phone or other device...not sure if most in car audio/USB can read FLAC. My Jeep Uconnect plays them no problem via USB.

Old tech is old tech. I prefer not to have to hunt for, and change physical media every 45-60 minutes on a longer car ride. One thing I do miss is the standardization of the DIN slots. Any upgrades or replacements are OEM only in most cases, forget aftermarket radios unless you want to rewire half the car (and assuming it is not a CANBUS).

I had a cd changer in my Mini Cooper S and my E320CDI. I do kind of miss having one.

now I just connect my phone via blue tooth to my truck and play my audiobook from the libby app or apple music. I haven't purchased a new cd in like 10 years.

They ROCK ! .

I have eclectic tastes in music to say the least so I have scads of unobtanium CD's I love to play then in my '82 240D's Kenwood player and my 2001 Ford Ranger's up model (from a loaded Explorer) .

For my other W123's I bought a SONY portable CD player and cassette adapter thinginie that plugs into the earphone jack on the player . crude but seems to work O.K. .

SWMBO bought a 2016 Honda Civic 4 door, it has blue tooth and what all else but no way to plug in anything...

I hate this car in spite of the killer AC .

I do use CDs. Still, I can see the benefits of a thumb drive. I started in that direction, but the program I was using required internet usage. I was on dial up. Some I know made the switch years ago. Coinvent for a motorcycle.

Apple Music.

I had ripped my CDs to my computer, ran them through iTunes, put them on an iPod for working out, and now I bring them in to my iPhone.

I just tell Siri what to play, and she usually does a good job. “Hey Siri, play that funky music white boy”. “I’m sorry, no I won’t, and don’t call me ‘white boy’.”

My daughter had a single subscription to Apple music, as did my son-in-law. I told them to make it a family sub, and they saved a few bucks a month, and my wife and I have Apple music for free.

Well ;

In addition to making everything you've got possible, we were also once young for what that's worth.....

At least I no longer have my 78 RPM records .

I have about 500 songs on my phone. Several thousand more on my hard drive..... It took several weeks worth of days sitting at my computer, ripping all the songs off of CD's.

Now all I do is get in my car, hit connect to pair my phone with the car via BT and viola, I have access to 500 songs in my car.

If you want to piss an moan about the lack of CD players in cars go for it. I am surprised Peter even found one. The rest of us will advance with tech. Bye bye.
