Vitamin D deficiency and COVID susceptibility

My primary care physician put me on vitamin D supplements about two years ago. Little did I know she was perhaps prophetic.

https://www.endocrine.org/news-and-advocacy/news-room/2020/study-finds-over-80-percent-of-covid19-patients-have-vitamin-d-deficiency

A contrary point of view:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7443564/

Who knows, I’ve read many times that vitamin D deficiency is widespread, also that it helps immune system function. What’s more, I have not yet come down with COVID. Which has to be some earthshaking proof, right?

Who knows?

Did you read the second link? The paper was a fraud...the authors don't exist. Don't trust your life to it.

Taking Vitamin D is never a bad thing. Next physical, ask your doctor to perform a blood test to check your vitamin D levels.....you might be surprised at the results.....

OTOH, as with vitamin A, it is possible to consume too much vitamin D.

There are a lot of links to wade through on the topic. As for the authors not existing, someone put those characters back to back and it came to be seen as an article by someone somewhere.

I read much of the second link. I’m not in the habit of putting links up for articles I haven’t even looked at.

On some level I am trusting my life to my primary care physician. She is a remarkable person. In no way am I swearing that vitamin D will protect anyone from COVID. But it does seem to be true that deficiency in that vitamin is not uncommon. One reads now and then about vitamin D deficiency leading to symptoms that are mistaken for more serious conditions.

Many drug users out there, fewer vitamin and natural supplement users. I find many people do not know nor understand the health benefits of Vitamin C, especially when it comes to the common cold, the flu or even COVID.

Yes sir, Vitamin C simply does not work for common cold, flu or COVID.
There is a marginal improvement of immunity in a subset of patients.
This is my area of expertise.

Vitamin D is safe to supplement and tons of people have deficiency, mainly those who live in a moderate climate with little sunlight. Besides, we all spend a lot of time indoors due to our modern lifestyle. This vitamin affects many functions of our organisms but does it help with COVID? I doubt that.

"Despite the high frequency of vitamin D deficiency in patients hospitalized for COVID-19, we did not find an association between circulating levels of 25OHD and the severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection."

Until a proper RCT comes out, these statements about vitamins and COVID are just opinions and not objective, unbiased facts.

PS. Oh, and "natural supplements" - what does really cause them to have any effect on humans? Nature? No. Chemical compounds present in them. Pharmacology evolved from isolation of those compounds from plant material and creating more potent and safer synthetic analogs. Modern medicines are actually tested for their content and dosage as opposed to "dietary supplements" which are classified as food and you don't know what you are eating. I can sell glucose pills and market them as any dietary supplement without any repercussions. FDA quality controls are few and far between.

most non-believers simply do not understand that for vitamin C to work on a virus effectively, rates above 250 mg per deciliter of blood is required over a 72 hour or longer period of time. Last flu/bronchitis/covid bout I had, I ran 20,000 mg per 24 hour period for ONE WEEK. After three days, all symptoms were resolved.... no coughing, no fever, no fluid in the lungs and NO DOCTOR BILL!!!

500 mg per deciliter of blood is known to cure cancer. For levels of 500 mg or more per deciliter of blood, IV vitamin C is required. for cancer, this means taking it IV every day of the week. Liposomal Vitamin C works synergistically with Asorbic Acid C. Acerola Vitamin C is from fruit and some believe it is the healthiest choice....

combine daily vitamin C therapy with oregano oil (watch the dosage on it though), zinc, copper, magnesium, vitamin D, braggs vinegar, lemon juice and you might never need to see a doctor.....

how do I know this works? Because I've experienced the health benefits time and again. BTW, the vaccine gods don't like Vitamin C therapy for obvious reasons.....

I take or try to take vitamin D. Actually, it is a vitamin your body can produce. You just have to be exposed to sunlight. So, I try and use 2500 milli during the Summer, and 5000 milli during the winter. Also, try and use D3. I like the liquid form and sublingual .
As noted in other post, amount or level can be a factor in vitamins being effective. Check what form and potency they use in trials. Also, the bioavailability or absorption. Also, many vitamins need other vitamins to be absorbed or be effective. Like calcium and magnesium.
As to Covid, I'd view it this way. Most of those who die are in poor health and or have other conditions. So, if vitamins help your health, you stand a better chance of surviving.

Stress is a killer, you have to learn to manage stress no matter what. Also, babies who were breast fed generally have stronger immune systems which helps overall health.

Again, in my experience, I run into people who generally fall into two different and distinct categories. Those who believe in Doctor Drug and those who believe in vitamins and nutritional supplements.

There is a third belief in medicine. The combination of therapies. I will agree stress is a killer. That also includes the lack of sleep or regeneration time. How that is accomplished is another matter. Drugs vs meditation etc. or even natural supplements. Some of the alternative therapies are being accepted. Also, the use of drugs have side effects. That also goes for natural supplements and alternative therapies.
I did have a session of acupunctures. During that session, I felt a ball of energy. I sort of directed it around a bit. Then it slipped done my left leg. It sort of went to sleep on me. Yeah, a bit strange. I went dancing that night, but only a few dances, and nothing stressful. The next morning my left knee was twice the size of my right.

I've been doing a special type of fast for over thirty years. most people I know who try it last at the most three days. I go for eight days. Doctor Nicholas Gonzales AKA "The doctor of last resort" used coffee enemas in treating cancer patients. he called it "floor work" because you sat on the toilet most of the day and read books or magazines.

On the fast I do, the seventh day is floor work. You end up pooping about double your normal volume and in some cases more than that. The fast loosens impacted crap in both your small and large intestines. The sixth day you have more energy than an eighteen year old! one time I did it and I had so much energy I called a girl I knew and went out dancing all night long to about six different night clubs in West Hollywood. She dropped me off at my house around 9:00 am the next morning and I still had so much energy I couldn't sleep.

You have to be careful what you eat on a fast though because your body goes into a purified state similar to when you were a baby. I heard about one guy who ate a candy bar around the fourth day into it and DIED. sugar shock got him. I stick with beef or chicken bouillon soup for lunch to keep my blood sugars up and it seems to work fine......

When John Wayne died, the autopsy revealed over twenty pounds of encrusted crap caked on in his intestinal tract. The intestinal build up is due to the preservatives in our food.

I've done the Master Cleanse a few times. Need to do a cleanse again sometimes. Suppose to do them at least twice a year. The first time I was dizzy. I think due to toxins leaching out. The next time, I sort of braced for that, but I was fine. Yes, only three days. Also, It was hard to ease back into eating.
