Busting my Britches with Pride
 

My daughter just graduated with a BS in Health Sciences, magna cum laude.

She is applying for Physicians Assistant programs, and I expect she will get in.

Here’s hoping.

Good choice by the daughter as well. The real shortage of doctors continues to grow. Here in Canada we call them nurse practiceoners.

If America ever gets any form of universal health care. The existing system would be swamped out. There are already serious problems. As many new doctors have no interest in putting in the excess hours. That the doctors they are replacing did.

We also have Nurse Practitioners, they just follow a different path.

She’s been told by some professors that she could become a doctor, but she is in her thirties and doesn’t have the years to give and the huge debt she must incur. The PA will require her to borrow $100,000 as is.

Big congratulations to your daughter! Great job done and a great career field choice.

Can't help but recoil at the idea that to become a medical professional, that benefits society, that a person must be saddled with a mountain of debt. The HC system here in the US is just messed up.

It doesn’t seem to deter her. A PA is a six figure job, and there are 700 applicants for her schools 70 slots.

I know but for those who cannot access a $100k loan....what are they to do? Just seems that we are limiting the pool of people who can enter these fields to those who can afford to enter these fields. So who are we missing out on? What pioneers are being skipped over?

No real answer.

On short notice, last year she had to take a course in summer school. The bill was ~$8000, and had to be paid immediately. The Bank of Mom and Dad covered it with a phone call and a credit card.

Not everyone can do that, for sure.

? Is it still possible for a young person to join the Air Force and get fully trained to be a Doctor ? .

Pops was a Doctor (Oncologist) but none of us 6 kids were .

I don’t know if it is still possible or not. A friend joined the service and became a dentist there. That was decades ago.

Joining The Service is a good option for many people, but not for a married woman of 37.

Is it legal to marry that many guys?

Sad that my first thought at the 100k loan was "thats not much these days". Good on your daughter for making a change, doing something new and fruitful!

I know some immigrants who came to America, joined the Armed Forces and made a 21 year career out of it then became Citizens and led regular lives .
