Insurance claim arbitration or attorney?
 
I have a RV that I went to use this spring. Upon inspection I found that mice had gotten into the unit and done quite a bit of damage. I contacted my insurance company and they paid payed to have it repaired or so I thought. I received the unit back after three months after they replaced the ceiling replaced the heater, a/c and bed. I went to fill the fresh water reservoir with water and found that it started tomfloood the inside of the trailer.

I took it back to the repair facility. They discovered that mice had gotten into the fresh water tank and chewed through the hose off the tank. The insurance company is saying that they will only pay $3,000 because they have reached the $17,000 maximum amount to repair the unit. I’m looking at $8,000 in repairs as it sits now.

I’m Not sure why they are telling me this. The unit probably should have been totaled initially. They should know that these types of things can turn into a can of worms. With that, I wonder if I really should have to take the loss since it was them that decided to fix it because they thought it would be cheaper to repair then to replace. It seems to me that they took a gamble and made a bad bet in this one.

I am not sure as to which course of action would be suitable but the repair facility should have gone through all the systems to test them. Had they performed due diligence, they would have been able to discover the leak and repair it. The repair facility seemed to have screwed up from what you are writing here. I would start with them.

Did your insurance company have an adjuster view the vehicle and confirm the extent of the damage?

I would actually suggest a third course of action. Contact the insurance commission in your state and lodge a complaint. That may or may not work. If it doesn't, hire a private adjuster. Adjusters often are contract workers who the company hires on an as-needed basis. They will also hire out to individuals to contest claims on a contingency basis...you give them a fixed percentage of recovery if they win, nothing if you lose. You used to be able to find them in the Yellow Pages, but the internet has surrounded information and destroyed it, so I don't know how you would find one today.

Who's insurance company do you refer to....yours or the storage/repair company? Often in these cases if you cannot get satisfaction with one you give it to the other.
