2023 Corvette, surprising new engine design option

https://www.edmunds.com/car-news/2023-chevrolet-corvette-z06-engine-detailed.html

With the push to electric motors I was surprised to see a new engine.

Your comment led me to search for the exhaust sound of the new engine. This youtube video provides that:

Sound was less 'whiny' than expected.

Check out this 400cc V8 bike. It looks factory built.

That is impressive. There is a brief bit of the exhaust note, the proverbial stoplight rev in the video in the OP that sounds pretty wild.

I’m guessing that Chevrolet/GM is making the gamble that electric cars, while fast, don’t have the sort of machismo that will pull in the diehard motörhead enthusiasts.

And what’s this? A red line of 8600 RPM? Not your grandpa’s V8.

I don’t know. Interesting and impressive but too much for me. What good is 400 hp on a motorcycle? We already have bikes that’ll do 0 to 60 in under 2 seconds and they have smaller, more manageable engines.

Being able to go 200 mph plus on a motorcycle strikes me as a really limited option. And hey, what could go wrong? Made me think of this guy:

I'm not endorsing it but it is cool. I'm more of a Franz Flyer guy though. I'm trying to figure out what the cylinders came from. Probably some sort of 4 stroke yard tool. I think my lawn mower has more displacement. Agreed EV's are probably better and the future but I and probably most car guys want a real engine in their hobby/leisure car.

The race version has almost 500hp. I spent some time with my neck in traction after crashing. Multiple broken bones as well. I think my soon to be EV moped is where I live now.

I agree, I like the Flyer more. I drove a couple of Honda 50s in my Jr. High days, they were fun and peppy. Imagine eight of those cylinder heads - coming up with a crankshaft would be the hard part, not to mention a block of some sort, you’d almost have to get the smallest production V8 block and crank there is and adapt your small pistons to it.

I’d like to see that Eisenberg engine in a kit cobra. The Factory Five Mk4 is 2300 pounds curb weight. Why put in a 7 L 600 hp engine? I bet the Eisenberg weighs 200 pounds less. Remember the 3L Cosworth V8 that Formula 1 cars used for years and years? Imagine one of those in a kit cobra.

I ran across this 87 cc replica of the 3L Cosworth. Fully functioning apparently. Dang, why didn’t they go for 1200 cc?

Somehow I ran across this video. The Corvette in question here was lined up against a Porsche and an Audi, well endowed models of those marques. And then they threw a top-of-the-line Ducati in the mix just to be a smart asses apparently.

It’s an interesting video just for the automobiles, but seeing the awesome speed that the Ducati gets from a 1.1L V4 (quarter in 9.5, 153 mph) gives me more room to wonder at advisability of putting a 3.0 V8 on two wheels. Oh well, rant over.

a turboed inline 6 cast iron block can produce 1200hp. I never liked V8 engines.

I think an in-line six is a better design.

For racing the 8 has advantages....especially the flat crank.
