Buying it....533i

Well I went back told the mehcanic to get in contact with the guy I want the 533i he said he may even be able to get him down to about 1,000. I will use my fuel pump and clutch cylinder to get it running and see what she can do. Found out the the deal on the car it was sitting outside when we had a tornado here and got some dints broken windows etc. the guy lost intrest in it after he had that happen (for sale then 7k) and took it to the mechanic and left it there. Got some small chips where surrface rust had started but nothing bad the door on the pass. side has a small rust spot but nothing I can't fix. 205/55/r15s on it to as well as 6x9s in the back windows and a 300 dollars cd player. needs some work but it will be ok
here are the pics

Nice find! I like that BMW body style. I also like the E32 7-series. I really would love to have an E32 735iL.

BTW, how fast is the E28 (is it the body style of the 533i?) M5? It has a 6-cylinder engine right?

mind me asking..
1. What is that thing between the instrument cluster and the center console on the driver's side that looks like a calculator of some sort .. telephone?

2. Are those elongated bumpers US-spec stuff? Because I remember that the E28's back home in Jakarta had both bumpers.. some had the long ones some had the short ones.
For a while I thought the one with short bumpers were the older ones...

I hope you enjoy this v.fine german auto!

Holson Adi, that thing is called the OBC (on board computer) gives you gas mileage, avg speed, mileage distance, time till fill up (dte) top speed, etc. Ya those huge ugly bumpers are us spec I want to get a BMP kit to make it look euro and give it the M535is look.
It is a 3.2 inline 6 pretty quick too
0-60 is 5.7
181hp
265ft lb
I think .25 mile was 16.4
TXBILL
The seats are in great shape it's amazing! I'm going to keep the blue seats out of my 528e and stain them read because they are near perfect. and maybe I will get better luck on this one the mechanic said it has been well cared for unlike my 528e

How was your 530?

Actually, the 533i goes 0-60 in something like 7.7 seconds with manual.

However, in the early 80s, that was stupid fast. Only the likes of Corvette, Porsche 911, and Ferrari 308 GTB could gun this car down in its heyday.

The E28 M5 went 0-60 in 6.3 seconds, I believe (with the 256 hp 3.5 liter 24 valve Motorsport six). These cars can be had for less than $10K too. Now who is up for eating a 450SEL 6.9 today?

Good luck with the 533i, it's much more of a car than the 528e.

according to the BMW owenrs man.
5.7 with 5 speed 7.1 with automatic
.25 16 sec flat
top speed 134mph
looks like it will harder to work on to but I will get used to that.
my 528e is 7.4 0-60 with a 5 speed could that be what your thinking of?

I liked it but it had a piston problem tjhat made a horrible noise. Bought it in 1991 for $2500 sold it 6 months later in 1992 for $3000.

So all in all not too bad. I had put on new tires and fixed the shifter plate as the shifter had dropped down. all they had to do was weld in a steel plate to it.

Other than that I did nothing to it.

mbz380se had it right check out these road test times some guy took the time to pull all the R&T data and posted it.

7.7 in those days was fast it took a long time for any production car to catch the 930 Turbo.

Those times look like autmatic times compaired to BMW times because the 0-60 is slower and .25 mile is faster.

See what I mean in thoose diffrences
1982 BMW 528e 10.3 17.5
1983 BMW 533i 7.7 15.8
