Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a PIA

Went to D-Land on the 21 with Ms Mash and a friend of ours. Started feeling a bit crappy that night. Next day was a little worse by Thurs when we left it I was congested and not a happy camper. By the time I landed, my ears were about to explode....I had no idea was sick or I would not have flown. I have been congested, to some degree or another, for years. So, got home....had a telemed with the doc and she went with a upper respiratory infection. Got some cough syrup with codeine and some anti biotics.

Cold syrup does not do anything. Had a in person doc tonight and he diagnosed RSV and nailed the symptoms to T without any input from me. Congested AF. The coughing spasms are the worst. Never experienced anything like it before. The come in waves and there is not a damn thing to stop them. I cough so hard I feel like I am going to vomit. I can drink all the liquids I want, suck down a keg of cough syrup I want, eat lozenges like Pez and I still cough.

The congestion is epic. I am using a nasal wash about 3 times a day and the toxic waste that is coming out of my nasal passage is epic. I have never seen anything like that before.

Doc prescribed steroids to deal with the inflammation, and an inhaler to help with the coughing. I hope to god that works.

I got back Thur night. Called out from work Sat/Sun/Mon and tomorrow. Im off Wed and I hope to go back on Thur because I am running out of stuff to binge. I normally kick a cold in a day or two. This is just kicking my ass.

So far the wife is symptom free so that is one good thing.

Managed two hrs of sleep before the coughing started again. For me, the cough is the worst. Till I get that damn inhaler the coughing is vicious and uncontrollable. Fortunately it comes in short (10min or so) intervals and then it subsides for a while so long as you don't mess with it.. like try and lie down. Knows when you even think it and sends you a reminder. Third time was the charm for me to get the two hrs sleep.

I did not know how bad the coughing would get or I would have had the inhaler Rx sent to a different pharmacy that was open later.

last night was miserable. Coughing has subsided a bit but I have not tried to lay down yet so we will see how it lasts. The mucinex seems to helping break down all the crud. I find it easier to breath now. Got the inhaler 2 hrs ago. Do not notice a difference but it may take more time. Going to try sleeping in bed tonight and hope I do not wake the wife up, otherwise, back to the couch.

I have never been taken down this long, 5 days so far, from any illness. This sucks.

Bad Sick

What inhaler ? .

I too have congestion, all my life and I hate it .

I rarely get sick but when I do wow, I get laid out for a week .

I hope you beat this thing fast David .

Eve nts like this is why I no longer want to fly at all and prefer being outside and better, away from others .

The inhaler is Albuterol. Does not seem to make much of a difference but I am not sure.

Today was not as good as yesterday. The cough is back but with out the violet spasms. So that is good.

Well ;

Keep taking whatever it is you need to take, infections can go sideways in a real hurry .

Ask your doc about moving to duoneb - albuterol + ipratropium

They just switched the inhaler but they wrote it wrong so the pharmacy cant fill it and the dr office is closed so I'll wait for tomorrow.

Now we have a major storm moving through here. Potential winds up to 80mph. Fun times in Texass. I'm glad I have a generator. Good chance it will be used tonight.
