Lets talk coffee pots
 

The wife and I both enjoy a good cup of Folgers Dark Roast coffee ever morning to get the day started. Unfortunately it seems that the Mr Coffee mostly plastic coffee pot start leaking after about a year. I think we are on the third one over past three years. We've about decided to try to find something of higher quality than the Mr Coffee unit that hopefully will last longer than 3 or so years. I'm not quite ready to pull out the 50 yr old perculator but do want something that will last. Home Depot has a 12 cup commercial Bunn brand that looks to be all metal. Thoughts/comments regarding what are some good coffee pots is welcomed.

We use Keurig.

have a Cuisinart where the carafe is a thermos rather that glass on a hotplate. Got it as a wedding present 21 years ago and it still works fine.

Thanks I'll have to check the Cuisinart out. I like to make a pot of coffee, not just enough for one cup.

I too have a Mr Coffee machine. Have had it at least five years. Only issue is its so tall it will not fit under the
upper cabinets, have to keep it out near the edge of the counter top.
I use an electric kettle, boil the water, then pour in the coffee maker. Coffee brews much better at temp between 200º - 210º. Never leaked, so far, , ,

How do you clean the inner workings?

I'll second the recommendation to check out the Cuisinart. We bought one with a glass carafe in 2005 and used it pretty much every day for 12 years until the cord failed due to pulling on it as opposed to the plug when unplugging. We then purchased a Cuisinart with the thermos carafe like savas mentioned and have used it daily since. I bought a new cord for the old glass carafe model, replaced the old cord, and took it to my office, where it still gets used two or three times a week. So they are pretty robust. They have a charcoal filter that you change periodically. I'm not sure how hard or soft your water is and I imagine that has some effect on longevity.

TDS is 49 and hardness is a 2.

Fill the pot ½ full with white vinegar, turn on pot, switch it off after about ½ the vinegar goes through machine.
Let it set till everything is cold, return vinegar from carafe to machine, repeat once, then run it to empty all the vinegar.
Run a couple of FULL carafes of water through machine to remove all vinegar taste.
Thats all, , , My machine brews coffee way quicker after this!

A little late to comment since you purchased one, but..

For about 62 years I typically drink 4 to 8 cups of coffee per day. For years I thought the Moccamaster was the best home brewer until I purchased an OXO Barista Brain 12 cup for a 2nd location away from home. For over two years the coffee is pretty much the best we've ever tasted. We make an effort to never use tap water for drinking or cooking. We buy up to 48 gallons of water from a nearby kiosk. The owner/builder is an engineer that uses.. sediment filter, reverse osmosis, charcoal filter, UV to kill things, and a 2nd carbon filter during dispensing to polish the flavor. Best water we've ever tasted and only 20 cents a gallon.

Due to the special water the OXO has never required a vinegar flush to remove deposits.

We also switched from whole beans freshly ground to the medium roast Kirkland from Costco that is supposedly supplied by a premium west coast company.

OXO no longer makes the 12 cup but they do produce an 8 or 9 cup. These are reviewed here:

We like it so much, we have two new units as spares if the 1st one fails. Cheap purchases from Ebay due to being up to 8 years old.

Use citric acid to clean your coffee maker rather than vinegar. It works fastee6and leaves no residue/after taste like vinegar does requiring multiple clean flushes.

Available at most grocery stores, typically in the canning section
