Blink - calling all Blink wizards

Alt. thread titles:

Blink, blinkity-blink.

Blink, and you’ll miss it.

I have, of course, pushed the button on these affairs many times, but I’ve never installed one from start to finish. One of my best clients wants me to put one in complete with swivelable camera inside, and three outside, including the camera in the doorbell itself.

One thing is confusing me so far, among other things:

Hardwiring into an existing doorbell ringer does not negate the need for batteries in the doorbell unit, some say it has no effect on battery life, Blink’s official word differs from that:

Quote:

The Video Doorbell can be installed wired or wire-free. When wired, the doorbell battery life is extended up to two years and rings your existing in-home chime. Even when wired, the doorbell is always powered by size AA, 1.5 volt, lithium non-rechargeable batteries.

I have a Wyze door bell. I would assume the same process applies to all of them. I hooked up the low voltage wires at the door bell then put in a supplied fuse at the bell portion in the house. Done.

I’m getting the hang of it, I was a little intimidated at first, the instructions were confusing. I had to do a web search for every other sentence to know what they were referring to.

This one is a bit tricky because there was no existing doorbell. They had an old-fashioned bell with a roping from it, you would pull the rope and slightly knock on the door at the same time. I kind of liked it.

Turns out they want the doorbell on the gate at the street. There was an old telephone controlled intercom next to the gate, I took that out, and I may be able to send the low current up the same wires. If you don’t have the transformer supplied low amp DC voltage, the batteries will wear out in a few months or less. Or so, the instructions say.
