EPA to drop requirement for auto shut off at red lights/stops

I'm glad to see this. I'm not a fan of auto stop/start.

Ive had good ones and bad ones. Newer systems are pretty smooth and seamless. I had a peugeot rental not too long ago that was excellent despite being a manual transmission.

Up till now every car I've ever owned, if it shut off at red-light I'd be pushing it out of intersection.

Both cars have it and I have no issues. I'll sometimes disable it when it is very hot so the car stays comfy when stopped but other than that, our work fine.

I know which intersections are really long. I frequently turn the engine off if I just missed the yellow. But the automatic turn off struck me as a bit weird.

I installed a bypass on my wife’s 2022 Outback - cost about $100 and an hour to install. On that car when it restarts it’s very abrupt and jumps forward unless you’re standing in the brakes. I’ve driven other rental cars where it’s super smooth and I kind of liked it.

There was not a button to disable it? Every car zi have had or rented had a disable button somewhere.

Even with the disable button, the system resets once you turn the engine off.

Yeah exactly - you have to turn it off every time you start the car. The bypass device remembers your last choice and keeps it set indefinitely.

Stop lying. You can't even hear it.

Teslas do this at any stop. Say what you will about EVs.... They no not have an idle m0de.

t walgamuth 05-21-2025 01:52 PM

I got used to it in a few days.

INSIDIOUS 05-21-2025 02:51 PM

Is there a starter life issue?
