Very un-Mercedes like

Well recently I've been knocking about in this car here, a Porsche 550 spyder replica, fixing it up somewhat.

It's definitely a stark contrast to any Mercedes - hard ride, No real refinement to speak of, unbelievably loud with its custom exhaust, a very un-smooth but powerful VW flat-four with Autokraft hot cams, rocker rollers, etc, Weber 44 IDF carb and other mods.

And looks pretty good too. What do you guys think?

If you painted that car silver, you'd have an exact replica of the car James Dean died in....

What's the performance like anyways? 0-60 mph, 1/4 mile?

Well, from the info I've been able to trace on the car, the dry weight is about 640 Kg, can anyone guess at the power in a tuned VW ~1800 cc? It revs over 6000 (from a 4300 limit in standard spec) and makes lots of induction and exhaust noise, I already mentioned the other parts. I'd estimate it produces 110-120 bhp.

Which gives around 170-190 bhp/ton, enough to make it fairly swift, and roughly matching the A8 4.2 in the picture (though it in fact feels quicker)

To compare to other lightweights, it's lighter and about as powerful as a Lotus Elise, so I'd expect around 6 second 0-60 and 14-14.5 second quarter mile.

But it's good as a cruiser, as a large engine and low weight means you can drive everywhere in top (4th) gear if you want to, and it's pleasant in the sun too.

And, err yes, the ivy and landscaping is my house..
