1990 560SEC Grill Update
 

A friend of mines just purchased a 1990 560SEC and was wondering if there is a grill update for this car. Since this car is 12 + years old the grill looks worn and it would be nice to repalce it with something like an AvanteGarde grill for a SEC. Anyone know if any upadtes that can be done for this vechile? Any help would be appreciated.

simplest update is to paint it black.

Leave the star chrome, and it will look very nice.

Thats what I would do. the SEC is one of the best looking benzes made in my opinion

Ashman: Paint the whole grille or just the inserts?

Shanta: just how bad is the surrounding chrome on the grille? MB chrome is pretty quality stuff, and stands up to decades of exposure.

Well, I will put it like this, the only thing you notice is chrome is the MB Star. He doesn't want to paint the grill, he wants it to stay chrome, all chrome prefereably (like the Avantgarde Style Grills. I did this update on my 94 E500, but I don't know if one exist for the SEC. Anyone know???

I would paint the grill black, leaving the chroem chrome. it will look very good. Chances are there are no grill options available for the car.

My understanding is that an "avantgarde" style grill is actually a copy of an SEC-style grill, used for 124, 123, 126 (sedans), 201's and others. With this in mind, I don't believe an (avantgarde) grill exists for the SEC.

You may search for a true SEC grill at a used parts center or you may have no alternative but buy a new one.

The SEC grill has the MB Star in it and my AvanteGard style grill for my W124 does not have the MB Star in it.

You wont find an all chrome grill I'm sure you could make one but I agree with Ashman paint it black (or the color of the car) leave the chrome and your set. or you could just buy new OEM plastic always looks good :)

Please stop talking about painting the grill because that is not what my friend wants to do, and I agree with him because I don't like painted grills either.

If anyone has info on an AvanteGarde style grill of a 1990 560SEC please post, otherwise no more talking about painting.
