Tires cost HOW much? Other stuff too.

With only 6000 kilometers on our new SL, the Pirelli P-Zero tires are already showing serious signs of wear. They should easily last until I put her away for the winter, but out of curiosity, I asked the dealer how much new tires cost.

Well, 18" tires are pretty costly! $2600 for a set? I really have stepped into a new world. The last Michelins I bought for our Honda Accord were about $500 for ALL FOUR.

Some other things I have noticed visiting Mercedes dealers? They have lots of stuff other dealers don't have. I have never seen Toyota merchandise like this stuff. You could spend another car's worth on shopping!

The service department says "sir" lots.

An oil change on an SL costs more than my Camry is worth!

welcome to the MB-world. My dealer charges $39.95 for oil change but that includes interior vacuum and body wash (they clean the wheels well...). I don't feel so bad about that.

Have you tried TireRack and see how much they charge for the tires?

$39.95? wow. I wish I could get that. I had the oil/filter changed, and it was just shy of $200.

Obviously, he must have done a "between" oil change, at only 6,000kms. SO!

And yup, about $200 for an A-service at the dealership (but includes more than just oil chng)!!

No... the A service includes a lot of things........
I can get my manual and list the included items.

Ok, for all 2001 models (US), an A - service includes:

wiper and waster systems
Check seat belts for damage
Reset FSS counter

Correct tire pressure

Oh... well this I know...
because I *think* John was referring to an A service. Correct me if I am wrong!

Atleast you have a list of what the A-service includes!  :o

Hell, my folks can't get the MB dealer to service their 2000 CLK Cab! They took it in at 26k to have the SECOND oil change and the dealer sent em packing! "If you want it for free you will bring it back when the service warning comes up on the display!" He said they would change it for about $150 but why bother when you can wait on the computer to tell you and get it for zip.

It makes me crazy knowing the car has only had the oil changed ONCE!! Arggghhhh.

They turned in a leased 98' 600sl in Dec 01' and only had the oil changed 3 times. The car had about 37k miles on it. I reminded them they probably can't do that with the new SC430 they replaced it with. Weird.

I just checked tirerack for the pricing of the tires. All 4 pirelli tires would amount to $954 plus about $40 or so for shipping. So it would be about $1000 plus maybe $60-75 or so to get them mounted and balanced. Total costs should be under $1100. All prices are in US dollars.
