Question good auto insurance companies

Hi guys,

Adding a third Mercedes to my "arsenal" is going to make my insurance rates go WAY up. I'll be selling the 190 and maybe the 300, but regardless, I'm not happy with Progressive and would like to find a company that has better rates. Does anyone know a good insurance company that can do business in the DC area? I've got a good record.

Agents welcome, just email me privately please.

Thanks!!

Stefano,

I don't know if you have US military experience but if you do, check out USAA. Best damn insurance company, bare none.

I suggest you check out Erie Insurance. They have good multi-car discounts, and also you can pick a "prime" vehicle and have all the others as "leisure use, less than 8000 miles/year" and get a discount for that.

If you should happen to have both your house and car insurance with Erie, that's another discount.

All insurance companies seem to be very good at taking your money. Its how they act when you have a claim that makes a difference. And the rates of course.

Try Geico or AIG

Very competative rates and claims I have had with both have been handled without issue.

I have full coverage on all three MBs, comp on my VW AND a homeowner policy on a small country home in Missouri on one premium. My monthly payment for all of those is about $370.

I came from a military family, but USAA has branched out to accept non-military types like me.

You never mentioned your age, as that (and your driving record) really is what determines your rates. I saw my rates drop at 25, again at 30, and a huge drop when I got married.

Incidentally, MBs actually get lower premiums assessed than many other cars. When I traded a 92 Jag XJS for the 95 SL500, my total premiums went down about $200!

I also have a primary homeowners policy, and yes, discounts do apply. They also deal with Sprint, and I get phone service discounts because I am a USAA member.

To keep your rates low, make sure you note all safety and theft deterrent options on each car. You do get multiple car discounts, but if you drive both of your cars, list one of them as pleasure.

G-Benz is right, USAA will give good discounts for multivehicle policies as well as homeowners etc. I would have posted more earlier but didn't have much time.

I've had USAA since day one as my Dad served in the Navy years ago. I've made two claims over the years and they were easy to deal with and very helpful in assisting me with the other driver's company.

Even better, several years ago, while I was unemployed, the flood rating on my house changed and I had to get flood insurance by law. I explained my financial situation to the USAA insurance person who had called me with this bad news (actually I had already gotten the letter). Since my mortgage was also with USAA at the time, she said 'hold a sec' and conferenced in a counterpart in the mortgage office. During a 15 minute conference call that was mostly between the two of them with me supplying a few pertinant facts, they came up with a way to get around the requirement of up front payment on the insurance and put it into my mortgage escrow. This meant I didn't actually see a change in payment for several months until the escrow change paperwork went all the way through the system. How many insurance companies do you know that are willing to go out of their way to NOT charge you lots of money up front?

I use Allstate although they may not have the best rates they certainly have the best service and no hassle coverage policy.

I would be agains Geico under any circumstance. About 10 years ago Geico invested millions of dollars to purchase radar detectors for state police in several states. If their customers were then cought for speeding they would hike up their rates immediately no questions asked. Thats a scam if you ask me. By the way this was published in a major magazine.

Thanks for the help, guys!

I called a few companies today and the rates are pretty much the same throughout. I have one accident and one ticket on my record, but I'm also 37 years old. Eirie can't put me on their discounted insurance, but will insure me on their regular insurance at about the same rate.

Once I sell the 190, the rates will drop, but with only the E320 (if I sell both my other cars), my rates will be about $233 a month!! That's unbelievable. I'll check into USAA insurance to see if they'll cover me, though I don't have military experience. Tonight I'll do some research on the net to see. Again, thanks for the help.

Sorry Placo1, after calling all the other companies recommended by forum members, I reluctantly called Geico as a last resort and went with them. Here's why:

Progressive: 300-D (liability only)+ 190-E 16 valve (full coverage) = $221 a month.

Geico: 300-D (liability only) + 190-E 16 valve (full coverage) + 1995 E-320 (full coverage) = $203 a month.

So I can add another car to my policy and STILL pay less with Geico. Had to do it.

Maybe with the savings (especially since I'm now selling the 190) I'll be able to buy all my forum friends brand new Valentine One radar detectors! Well, let me think about that one...

PS The same policy (all three cars) that I now have with Geico would have cost me over $400 a month with Progressive. Can you believe that??

I went with Geico circa 2 years ago and have been thoroughly satisfied. I did a lot of research on the matter before signing with them and found nothing but good things about claims etc. No other company could come close to offering a competive premium. My only complaint is that since moving to Florida, my insurance premium doubled that of North Carolina.. "Florida has the worst drivers than any state in the union" was the response from several people here in the Sunshine State. Since living here I've checked on other companies and still they could not offer a price for coverage better than Geico. So, I think you're OK with them.

My best friend has USAA insurance as he is Navy. He had the number, so I called. You have to have an immediate family member (parent) that has military experience, and an active policy to get in. I just gave the number to my father to see what he can do. If they'll let him in, I'm gonna give them a call again.
