Fallen in love with another car.

I love the new MINI. I will buy one within the next six months. I still love my MB. However, I will be parting with it. Any opinions on the MINI? About the only thing I think that would make it better would be a turbo-charged diesel engine. I'm not going to hold my breath for that.

I see a red one every morning on the way to work...still a novelty to see now that the Beetles and PT Cruisers are ho-hum these days.

Still, in Texas, the monster trucks are king! I fear being in traffic driving anything smaller than my E-class while surrounded by F150s with high-lift kits and Soccer moms in Navigators with cell phones glued to their ears!!!

I saw a lifted F650 the other day, and instead of the spare it had a F150 :D

I've considered the size issue. Here in Palm Springs, Most people still drive cars. I figure I still have half a chance. andy

And the really sad thing is, in most of Texas, there's really no place to use the 4wd and those lift kits. No real mountains and no snow.

Hey, a Mini could be good for navigating through super-lifted Excusion and F-350 swarms. Just merge right under the SUV with the small size of the Mini! :D

I give the Mini's two years!

I bet the mini's will be a fast passing fad

Andy,

Life is short. Follow your heart and enjoy!

Dont get anything other than the Cooper, as the rest are a tad underpowered. This is presuming they come with the same engine selection on your side of the water.

Get the mini

I think they are just the coolest.

We have muddy logging trails to explore (more like deep ruts), loose sandy beaches, marshes, swamps. You don't have to have mountains or snow to appreciate 4WD. I have considered buying a little Samurai or and old 4 Runner to reach some beach areas that are pretty much inaccessible in my Mercedes.
Sorry for the misunderstanding; I should have clarified what I was trying to say...which was that SUVs could hardly be justified for on-road use in inclement weather in a southern state (like TX), due to the fact that most people never take their SUVs offroad.

But if you plan to hit South Padre Island in a 4-runner, more power to you, man.

Matt, I am going to get the regular mini. There is no way it is going to be slow after driving a MB non-turbo diesel for the past 3 years. I'm not just getting the car for the novelty factor. I don't care about that. It fits all of my needs. Small, fuell efficient, very good looking to me, fun to drive, hatchback with enough room for all of the things I carry on a regular basis, Less than 20 grand, ABS,Multi air bag system to name a few. The only other car I was considering was the VW Golf 2dr TDI. The Golf is due for a facelift for 2003. Maybe I'll wait to see what it has to offer. I also think that in ten years I'd rather be driving a 10 year old MINI than a 10 year old Golf. I've decided to give my 300cd to my dad if he'll agree to convert it to a four speed. andy
