How much armstrength does it take to turn an alternator?

Do you suppose I can take an alternator, find a way to gain a mechanical advantage and use it to recharge a dead battery?

Well...

You could, but why? Just go down to Costco, SAM'S Club, etc...and buy a small battery charger for $39.99. ;)

Or you could stick an impact wrench on the alternator and just let 'er rip! Whee!

sounds like you're trying to save money...but what if you screw up the alternator...spend the 39.99 for the battery charger that's what i did...
why would you want to make a simple thing so complex?

I suppose if you got a bicycle pump and pumped real hard and fast, you could recharge an evacuated AC system too!;)

Man! You are getting more like your avatar!!! :p

You could use the pull starter off a lawn mower:D
