a British car, really?
From colectorcartrader.com:
1971 JENSEN INTERCEPTOR, II Saloon, white w/dk green interior, 697k miles... 1,100,000 km? Gotta be a first for a british car. A sporty car at that. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL Last edited by sixto; 09-13-2002 at 01:58 PM. |

Sixto,
If memory serves correctly, the Jensen Interceptor uses Chrysler V-8 power and a Chrysler Torqueflite automatic tranny (one of the most durable automatics ever made). I'm willing to bet that the car's probably at least on its second engine and transmission though, but hey, Chrysler engines/transes are cheap to replace and some of them can last a long time (not all by any means, but some). -Sam |

Not the first US/UK hybrid...
Believe Jensen adapted US running gear for a number of years prior to this. A real trophy car from the '30s is the Railton, available in many body styles, and planted on solid Hudson Super-Six mechanicals. Even Rolls-Royce used GM transmissions.

A lot of Brit Daimler's (parrot hood ornament) are still rolling, though unknown if this s due to the tlc of the collector than robust build.
there's an old joke: in heaven, the british are the beauracrats, the french are the cooks and the engineer's are german. in hell, the brits are the engineers, the french are the beaucrats and the cooks, german. |
