My New Job...
Finally!
About 2 weeks ago I went on an interview for an office job. Tasks were to include: reception, filing, assistance, phone operator, greeter, mail clerk, and other odd office duties. They were offering $8.00/hr. The interview went great; they really liked me. So I was hired! On my application, I was asking for $9.00 an hour. They felt that I might be worth the $9.00 I was asking, so they gave it to me! I felt good about that right off! So my hours are great too... I start at 11am and get off @ 4pm... except Thurs I start at 1130. So that is just under 25 hours a week. The company I work for is called Ametek Aerospace. It's a manufacturer for aircraft parts. They have plants internationally as well. This particular location is in So Ca (obviously). I must dress nice for this job, as I am the "receptionist" (I hate using that title!) for this multi-billion dollar company. My work-place is mainly at the front desk in the lobby. One of the large tasks I do is answer the phone as the 'switchboard' operator. I have to answer the phone OPERATOR! And at times, I also have to say, "Mary Smith, Please call the operator; Mary Smith, PLEASE CALL THE OPERATOR." You get the idea! And I transfer people, etc etc. It's kinda fun. I also run outgoing mail through the postage machine (LOADS OF FUN!), sort incoming mail, and fax etc. Clients that come to the office are greeted by me, who tell them to sign in, page the employee they're looking for, and hand the client a tag stating: "VISITORS PASS, ESCORT REQUIRED." In addition, I am basically a personal assistant for the four main Sales Representatives (all female). I will do all sorts of tasks with the files... including assortment, filing, and data input. All of the sales go to big Aerospace Companys and such, including: Delta, Bombardier, HorizonAir, Alpine Rescue, Mesaba Airlines, Thai Airways, KLM, and other major aerospace companies. But the other day I was entering an order, and guess what!? It was for DaimlerChrysler, who had order products that were in excess of $700,000!! I also saw Saab Corporation on there. I believe that the parts Ametek provides include yaw sensors, angle sensors, force sensors, you know? Devices that measure force... perhaps Mercedes uses them for ABC, ESP, or maybe even the SRS system? Anyway, I enjoy my job, thus far! I am kept fairly busy, which I like. Sometimes in the late afternoon, I have a few minutes to doodle online just a bit. Just wanted to tell you all about my job! www.ametek.com

Congratulations, and welcome to Coporate America David! Although I send my condolences too :p like Tony Soprano once said: "Once you get into this family, there ain't no gettin out"
When things start getting too crazy, rent the movie Office Space and you'll feel much better! Regards, - Ryan

Congratulations David!
It's always good to be working in an environmentally-controlled building...and for the money, there are places that would have you working much harder than you will there! Enjoy the ride while you can! There are many unfortunate souls out there with families to support that are still beating the pavement (considering the economy these days). So you my friend, just beat the unemployment statistics! Best of luck!

Wow... sorry it took me so long to reply... I had a busy and hectic day at work. I got logged in to the shop late in the afternoon, but that was about it! I didn't get around to viewing the post. I'm a career boi!!!!! (jeez, that spelling couldn't be ANY more obvious.)
Yes the homely C-class is MY Mercedes... And thankfully (hmm, or not? , I didn't have to fork over the cash for it!! But being Mr. Lover never hurts... Thanks for all of your kind thoughts!!

DAMN WELL SAID!! Thank you very much for that clever explanation... Not to mention that one of the ladies drives an OLD (early 90s) Pontiac Grand POS; I know she makes good money... must be a down to earth lady...! Yes, I swear, my car is the nicest in the parking lot. All of the RESERVED parking spots have Honda Accords, Toyota Avalons, Toyota Solara, Ford F150... just avg econoboxes. That's weird... realizing I am the youngest, least experienced, least qualified, least $$ paid, and most recent hired employee... and my car tops the lot, EASY! Sounds to me like it's all in owning a Mercedes-Benz!!
