Thank you MercedesShop
I just wanted to say thank you to the owners, moderators, and members of this great site.
Today I accomplished one of my major goals for 2002: basic automotive maintenance. I wanted to learn how to take proper care of my family’s cars. To me it is a skill that I just thought I should have. It’s not that I want to become a mechanic, lack for things to take up my time (wife, kids, job, old house), or really even enjoy mechanical work. I just wanted to be free from total dependence on my mechanic and be able to do the work at my leisure. I am very meticulous and really worried about messing something up. A week ago I spent several hours researching to find out the best parts and procedures. I found everything I wanted to know. I copied and pasted and made my own “E320 and C230 basic maintenance manual.” Fast Lane had the parts. Today I practiced on the C. I changed the engine oil and filter and replaced the engine and cabin air filters. I'm sure it sounds basic to most folks, but to me it was a major accomplishment. Thanks!

Welcome and glad you found the site useful. I stumbled upon this site after being quoted something in the range of $330 for an oil change.

Welcome to the forum! You'll learn LOTS more than that here, if you stick around! I can't even begin to count all the members who have helped me out, even without my asking. This is the greatest place I've found for a Mercedes do-it-yourselfer!
Mike

Welcome to the Shop. You'll find yourself digging deeper and deeper into your car and relying less on the dealer. Word of caution though, you'll soon find yourself spending way more on tools than you'll be saving , but that's a good thing. Hopefully your garage is large enough to handle your tool collection.

Today: simple oil change and basic maintenance...
Tomorrow: timing chains and head gaskets! That is the evolution of those of us who dared to venture on this site!!! You will be there before you know it...really!
