Things are getting crazy here in DC!

Another person has just been shot in the DC area this morning. We don't know yet if it's the Sniper, but it has all the markings of it (gas station again). For the first time that I can remember, police are stopping traffic on all the highways in the area, including I-95 and the Capital Beltway to look for the killer. All the news stations are showing live pictures of the highways and the stoppages. Seven people killed so far around here and this could be the eighth.

This is crazy!!

I hope they catch whoever is doing that. I just can't get over it when I see it on TV. I grew up in that area, and I hope it's safe for you again.

If a white van bumps me going up I-95 in the morning, I'm taking them out - full turbo boost assist.

I've been thinking that if the sniper would only go out about 10 miles further from the Interstate in VA, he'd be where people would be shooting back at him.

I gassed up at the Crown station, on Rt.1, south of Alexandria, yesterday. Noticed most people (including me) filling up at the inside lanes - the ones furthest from the highway and closest to a 6 foot privacy fence and garden apartment complex. On to the new Rt.1 post office. Noticed a Fairfax County police cruiser just sitting there, WAITING! Then, I survived my last stop at the Safeway.
It's all so bizzare!

Happy (and SAFE) Motoring, Mark

When I drove by a gas station tonight on the way to dinner, I noticed a guy was filling his car while crouching behind the gas pump. The gas station sits on Rt 3 in Crofton, just down the road from Bowie.

I agree with Ken300D. If I see anybody trying to run away from cops on the Interstate, I will definitely do my part and ram the S.O.B. He may not be the one, but anybody running must have something to hide.

What we need is like the old Western days. Have posse form in different part of the highway just waiting. As soon as another shooting occurs, they just pull out and block the road in all directions till the cops show up and have EVERY car searched.

Can't wait till they catch this sicko. But , I seriously doubt we will ever catch him.

What I don't understand is how this twisted f*ck has been able to avoid law enforcement for so long?

Maybe a law enforcement background? Former cop, FBI, military?

We need to retain a little perspective around here

Not to take away from the threat this guy poses, but there's really no need for all of us to be constantly threatened by this guy. There's what? About 3 million in the area and this is one guy. It's just like terrorism, yeah sure you can get killed by terrorists or a sniper but you never know how or when and the chances are so slim that there's much better things to worry about.

That being said, there's nothing wrong with being a little more vigilant but to actually always be afraid is absolutely unnecessary. Admittedly, I was happy that I decided to pull up in the inside lane to gas up this morning and definitely was keeping an eye peeled.

Well, there's logic, then there is how we feel. Sometimes what we feel has a logical base, but often it doesn't. That doesn't make those feelings wrong, or unnecessary.

Statistically, I'm sure there are more deaths per day in the Washington/Baltimore area than this guy has been responsible for, either through auto accidents, or crime, or whatever.

But for right now, this must have people feeling a loss of control. We think we know the odds of surviving any given automobile trip, and subconsiously, at least, we make the decision to drive knowing we will probably beat the odds if we are careful.

People in this area don't know what they can do to be careful and avoid this guy, so they do feel scared. And the fact that there is only a one in 3 million chance of dying this way certainly doesn't relieve the pain the families of the victims are experiencing.

Is there something better to worry about?

I don't know, but I don't believe the fact that you feel fear for the sniper means you can't also have concern for other issues of the day.

He did it again!!

Another one got killed tonight at a shopping mall at 9:15 p.m. The entire area is in a lock down, and the police is conducting the biggest manhunt ever.

Still no suspect, only a few witnesses. As I was watching the news, one channel said it was an Astro van, and the other channel said it was a Dodge. As confusing as it is, no wonder the killer is still at large.

When will this stop?

And Maryland is still looking for an Isuzu box-truck!
