Yes, but I really don't plan on staring at the screen while driving. Rather, I will rely on the voice prompts while using the screen as a quick reference.

I used my parents' jumbo-sized GPS a few weeks back and never looked at it once while driving. Waste of space in my opinion. But then I also stow my cellphone in the trunk when I drive. I'm just not into distracted driving I guess...

I meant for programming.

Nothing wrong with a small screen but I was surprised to see how small it is since in pictures it looks like the C3xx series I'm somewhat familiar with.

Although the Garmin's primary use will be as replacement for the odometer in my 85 380SE, I have several other cars that will be sharing it. A smaller unit will definitely be easier to move from car to car. Actually, at a price of $200 if I like it enough I could always get one for each of the other cars and still be ahead of the typical $500 to $800 that other units cost.

Smaller also means more portable. I sure could have used this unit a few weeks back when I was blindly navigating the streets of Philly, Baltimore, and D.C. It would have filled the space of 3 pairs of socks in my suitcase.

Check out the Garmin i5, basically the same model but with color and preloaded maps. Everything else, including size, is the same. Only $349. I did a ton of research - these i2, i3, and i5 units have a lot of the features that the more expensive models have. Check out epinions.com and you will find nearly everyone with one of them thinks it's great.

Note that this is a really old thread.

I like the garmin moving map series that will take the maps for aviation, marine and automotive uses. They have three digit model numbers and end in 96 or 76, I think. Read about WAAS before you buy. I also want one that will do quadrangle maps but it will have to be really lightweight.
