saturn manual transmission problems-advice please!!!
One of my friends up here at UNF has a saturn SC manual(1992), and recently, his manual transmission will not shift. The car is currently stuck in first gear. When you go to shift, it does not even feel like a transmission is there, it feels like it is just a stick attached to nothing. Our best guess is that a linkage broke of fell off, but neither of us have a clue as to where to start looking. We would appreciate any and all advice, as neither one of us know where to start, especially on a saturn. thanks
Ryan

Pull the center console off and look at the linkage in the shift tower. Probably a pin broke off as these are cable actuated trannies. IIRC, this is something that is known to occur on the older cars.

Not sure as it seems like they change mounting these kinds of things at random. Look for screws down low, and just be systematic about the removal. Pull around the edges and note if it looks like the console is hanging up on anything. If you get stuck, I'd recommend getting a book for the car.
