Check out my pics (not MB related)

I've recently started going around specifically looking for things to photograph, and surprised myself with the resulting pictures, especially as they are taken with a fairly basic digital cam.

So far I've been doing night photography around my area (Clifton, Bristol, England), and am now always looking for new things to photograph (preferably at night, night photos can have a 'moodiness' about them).

What do you guys think?

Oh there's one car in there too, you might recognize what it is

Russ,
Do you have any other pics of the steamer Great Britain? It's one of the things I must see when I visit England!

Happy Motoring, Mark

Great pics, Russ!!
How did you get the black and whites? Is it a setting on the camera or something?

I have a good digital camera (3.3 million megapixals) and am trying to learn some of the things I can do with it.

thanks guys..

Stefano - there's a black and white setting in the colour balance menu of my otherwise very basic Canon Powershot A20 camera. You can convert the colours to b&w afterwards but it doesn't look as good.

An important thing to remember if you want to try night shots like these is that you need a tripod. They are not at all expensive and very useful. With one it's very easy to take nice looking nighttime photos (easier than daytime photos!). For night photos you'll need a long exposure and if holding the camera by hand it will shake and produce a blurred image.

I found using a flash is no good except for very close subjects, and then it still gives a nasty effect. Most cameras let you turn flash off.

Mark - I'm afraid I don't have any other SS Great Britain photos, but it is a 5 minute walk from me and I plan on taking some sometime. I looked around it on a school trip a long time ago, but can't really remember what it was like inside, I think it's nice.

Thanks Russ!
I have a Toshiba PDR-M65. I'll look for that type of setting.

Funny story: it was originally a Christmas present for my former girlfriend. I realized the relationship wasn't going to last much longer but had bought the camera too long ago to return it. So I kept it for the tax write-off (legitimate business expense) and got her a cheaper Kodak.

PS The Kodak was still over $300, so I'm not that much of a rat-bastard!!

Wow

Hello Pentoman,

Great pics and that is a nice RV/Camper.

Is it a custom built or is there a manuf who makes them. Can you share some details about it? Also what do you do for a living?
