What will your "next MB" be (and be realistic)?

People,

I was thinking this over at breakfast this morning...wondering if there is another Mercedes in my future, what I want it to be.

400E/E420...fast, but big V8 in W124 body may lose some serious serviceability points.

C280...ok. 94 and 95 had some problems with wiring harness, but I think a 1996 C280 would be a nice well-rounded little car. 194 horsepower, a little over 3000 pounds, small size for carving through slow-movers on the freeway...yeah.

Of course, this would be in about 5 years or so, since my ol' Volvo turbo does just fine right now, and being in college, the last expense I could assume would be a C280 payment.

What does everyone else visualize for themselves (and I mean realistically...a 6-speed manual, twin-turbo 500E isn't going to be realistic for EVERYONE )?

-Sam

I would want to move up from the w126 to an early W140 but they are still out of my price range and dont forget the horror stories from those. I guess a 93 190e or 94 c-class.

I hope I'm done for awhile...

Depending on what happens in the future...I'd love to eventually purchase an R107 for myself, as I dreamed of owning one when I used to gawk at SLs in the dealer showroom during my college years.

My daughter will probably turn 16 before that happens so I'll hunt for a W126 for my daughter. I need to have her drive something BIG, so that she stands a chance of surviving a collision with a Texas-sized pickup or SUV.

I saw the results of a 20mph collision in front of my neighborhood involving a Cavalier that rear-ended an Excursion. Needless to say, not a scratch on the Excursion, but the Cavalier was totaled! So note to myself, my daughter is NOT driving an econobox!

I've been thinking about this for a while now.
Realistically...

1. 240D 4-speed MINT call it a downgrade if you want but I think the 4-speed is fun.
2. R107 560SL - I really like the classic body style and I long for a convertible. I don't really need a practical car as I don't drive to classes. Walking is fine, healthy, cheap, and I see beautiful things everyday hehehe :p
3. W124 .... basically any W124 would do.. the perfect sedan. Elegant, yet understated. 300D Turbo and 300E 5-speed are my top choices along with the coupe.
4. W210 Turbodiesel (E300) - for very obvious reasons.. refinement + diesel
5. This one borders between realistic and unrealistic... R129 300SL/500SL (early model as they are the most affordable).
6. W126 300SD, 300SDL, or 560SEC! or maybe a 91 350SD/L with rebuilt engine.

Not in order but the convertibles -> 2-doors -> 4-doors is the order.

If I had the cash.. I'd get the R129. Very nice looking roadster.

Good question!
I would have to say that I would definitely get something NEWER than what I have now...

Like a 1984or 1985 300DT (5-speed manual if I could!)

That is the truth.
These MB's are the only MB's that my ego and checkbook can afford.

I would be VERY willing to get another 240D.
It would also still have to be manual everything.

C240, realistically speaking that is. But if I ever came across a 190E like the one on Ebay recently my heart would pull me towards it...and it just might win over my head

The new (current) E class when it is about four years old appeals to me!

Eventually, I would like to move into the new SL. However, I am quite satisfied with my current R129. I am at least 3 years away from this and will purchase a E class for the wife first. She LOVES her C class but I know that in a few years she will want to move to the E.

Depending on who wins the battle on who gets the next used car, and also depending on whether or not my wife and I have kids:

Not in any order:

1. '91 560 SEC
2. any year W140 S500 coupe
3. SLK (either engine)
4. R129 500 SL

560 SEC Something that goes when you hit the happy pedal! I love my diesel, but once in awhile I wanna accelerate a little faster. Plus I love the look of the SEC's.
BTW, I'll still keep the diesel!

well, my next car wont be another MB, but instead most likely a 1997 528i BMW. If the BMW turns into a maintenance and reliability nightmear(it will have 200k when i inherit it, but all highway), then i would look for a really nice 90-91 560SEC, or however nice 88-up 560SEC i could afford. I love that car almost as much as the 528i

I'm thinking off-lease W211 also, depending on how the early model reliability pans out. I'd like a optioned-out one too- BiXenon, keyless go, panorama roof, maybe even the heated seat/steering wheel option. Distronic would be nice too. And a color that doesn't suck. I could manage with a 320, a 500 would be better.

I really really want a Mike Tangas 4.5 car. For the wife, maybe a W211.
