Winter tires were now invested

Well, apart from spinning 360s in the family 380SE in high school, in the high school parking lot during Christmas vacation back in like 1999, not too many.

Oh yeah, I got the car up to like 50 on an icy street and jammed on the brakes, showing off how ABS was to a friend. (none of the cars he had access to at the time had ABS, and he was duly impressed!)

Other than that, most winters, I drive an old Volvo around.

Last winter, I drove around all afternoon a few days after a big snow sliding around corners on icy neighborhood streets with friends in the C230. It was alot of fun. One corner, mistook a bunch of sludge for packed snow and the car just kept going rather than turning. The back end came around like it had been all day, but I didn't quite round the corner. The left rear wheel hit the curb hard while spinning very fast and I found out a block later that I tore an apx. two inch piece out of the edge of the wheel and punctured the tire pretty badly.

I"m getting snow tires this winter.

Didn't own any MBs until I moved to Texas...

All of my winter antics occurred in my VW...what a fun car to play with in the snow, until I would get too adventurous and wind up snuffed in a huge drift!

I do remember one year when we drove to St. Louis to catch a plane at Lambert field. My dad parked his 280SE in the long-term lot.

While we were gone, St. Louis was hit with an ice storm, so we got back to a car that was covered in ice! It was very cold too, so ice removal was nearly impossible.

I helped my Dad try to chisel our way in the car. We had damaged the windshield surround and broke the hood emblem in the process.

Our family usually ventures out to visit family in Missouri and Illinois during the holidays, but so far, the ML hasn't had to touch any snow yet...

This was our bad winter day this January. Started snowing at 8am. Image was made at 9 am. By 11 am there was not a trace! Later that day we played golf in short sleeves!

not much snow here

last year in raleigh, north carolina, where it will occassionally snow, but rarely stick. we got about 15 inches. 3 years previous we had gotten a record breaking 24 inches.

anyways, last year i decided to try and drive around to see how my wagon would perform. it did phenomenally. i guess the weight and torque helps. the resistance of a diesel to spin out. i couldnt' get it stuck no matter how much i tried. but of course i didn't do anything stupid either.

even so, there were several BMW's stuck and even an explorer! it felt good cruising past those with no problem. here's a picture of my wagon in the snow.

haha

jim, hah, funny question. no that's a neat idea though, a star that would melt snow around it. i actually just primped it for the photo, thought it would look cool to see the star peeking out.

With cable chains my 300D is like a half-track heading up the local ski hill's road. The only thing that I noticed was the wheelwells packing up with snow.As long as you keep below 30 mph the chains are great, passed many 4X4's w/o after they went by me at the bottom, what's that story bout the turtle and the hare
