While not quite a “rescue” we recently we were adopted by a new cat. During a day at our cabin, he came up and explained to me his need to be adopted. He was tired of hunting mice and moles for food and sleeping outside in the coooold. I had seen him a few times during the preceding 2 months but he never approached me until that fateful day. He was so affectionate and big, but still little more than a kitten, I just couldn’t say no. We think he might have a little bobcat in him due to his size and the tufts on the tips of his ears. I can’t believe that someone would turn out such an affectionate cat into the mountains of Washington! What *******s! Some folks are so cruel they should be left alone a few nights in the cold themselves. Anyway, meet our new kid, Simba:

That's the ugliest looking cows I have ever seen in my life. Can't you give them something to eat?

We have ordinances against neighbors like that .

Congratulations on the new arrival. She'll be your best pal for sure.
I also had a new arrival recently - about a week ago I brought home another stray. I saw her in front of a neighbours house on my way home from Wal Mart. I hurried home and quickly put my groceries away so that I could go check her out. I grabbed my flashlight as it was dark, and proceeded to where I saw her, half expecting that she would have moved on. Nope, she was still there trying to cozy up to the neighbours dog. The neighbous had not gotten a second dog, so I knew that she was indeed out of place and tried to get her to approach me. After several minutes she did - just enough to let me touch her, but not any more. I let her check me out a bit and tried to coax her closer. I got her a bit closer and tried to catch her. She wanted no part of it, and I basically ended up tackling her to grab her. Well, she ended up being a walking bed of thorns, and I now had to carry this HEAVY white mutt that didn't have a spot on her that didn't cut, dig, or poke into the skin. I got her home and fed and watered her. Next morning, I proceeded to cut out most of the thorns in her fur without shaving her. I took her to the vet to get her checked out before putting her with the others. After a week, she is now becoming very comfortable with her new digs, and is now becoming much more vocal. According to the vet, she is about 3 1/2 months old, and she is already larger than Chance, my husky/sheltie mix and smallest of the mutts. Meet Snow: |

Loosely paraphrased from:
Mark Twain; If you take a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between dogs and mankind. From Ghandi; A society can be judged by the way it treats it's animals. From Woodrow Wilson; If your dog will not look you in the eye, then you need to take a good look at your conscience. Here's to all animal lovers out there. You are my heroes!!! |

Congrats, Stephen!!
My family adopted two beagles to keep my dad company after he retired. Whoopy had been abused, but soon warmed up to family members. Newt was a pup named after Newt Gingrich (he had just become Speaker of the House). They were two GREAT dogs that would never leave my dad's side. He cooked (I mean on the stove and everything!!) two meals for them daily. After he passed away, they couldn't eat or sleep regularly until each got one of dad's shoes to sleep with. We lost Newt to heart failure (defective heart from birth) two years ago and Whoopy earlier this year. Sure miss them... Sandi sure is a cutie!! |

Great stories!!
Sadly, the loss of a friend cannot be softened. A true friend cannot be replaced. However, new friends can be found. Emptiness can be filled, it may be slow and it may be hard, but one thing is certain; living in the past is good for a memory, living for today is good for the soul! If you love animals (all kinds), then let one adopt you!!

Those are the infamous she Wapiti, spreader of the good times virus, taker of young children, relentless and evil spirited, 4 legged stomper outter of fires, unswerving mooch of anything on the ground, and invader of dreams. Actually, rather than being stomped to death, I got one of them to lick my hand last weekend. It was so cool!
And what a society they have! Thanks to hunting rules, there is about one male to about 60 females. They all get to play in the woods all day and all night! Due to the legendary Wapiti wool, they are impervious to cold. Woo Hoo! Any wonder why they don’t drive BMWs??!?!?!?!? Here is the male counter part: sometimes called a coat hanger. PS: Oh yes, we see anyone with guns pointed towards the Wapiti, on our property and we whip out the 9mm and declare open season on trespassers
