Losing the World Series to the Marlins last year has got to feel like nothing compared to what Boston Red Sox fans must be feeling now.
Bucky F*ing Dent, the Yankees traded Soriano for A Rod.
Can't wait for that first Yankees vs Red Sox series!

I am a Sox fan but an unusual one in that I don't 'hate' the yankees. How can one hate Bernie Williams and Derek Jeter? A Rod will certainly put the Yanks back in the October classic but they still need pitching, non? Losing Pettitte and Clemens hurt them. On the Sox, side I don't expect much out of Schilling - prediction - he gets hurt in May throwing too hard and has a mediocre season.

Marlins! World Series champs again. That is awesome. I was born very close to their stadium so I have watched them go from expansion team to two-time World Series champs. I have loved every minute of it.

You must be a masochist if you enjoyed what Wayne Hiezenga did to that team after they won it all the first time.

The Yankees definitely still have a dire need for a quality left handed starter and a decent middle reliever. The good news is they won't be out of too many games with the runs that lineup will produce. Even as a diehard Yankees fan, I have to admit a payroll of $190 million is out of control.

Yeah, I agree with you on the payroll thing. It almost isn't the best team winning the world series but the best collection of free agents assembled. Even the Dodgers who pride themselves on home grown talent went after Sheffield and Kevin Brown. Then again when Florida and Anahiem come from nowhere and find that chemistry - ah...I think maybe the Sox should try that approach instead of trying to buy a world series out from under the 'Evil Emipire'.

That's just like the Yankees.......Throw all the money at players....don't bother to coach or manage a winning team... Just "buy" yourself a world championship.

Yankees getting beat by ANY team......1.2 million
Yankees losing the World Series..........PRICELESS!!!

Got to disagree with you there. If coaching wasn't part of the equation the Mets, the Red Sox, the Redskins, the Knicks, the Orioles, and a bunch of other pro sports teams that have spent heavily in the free agent market would have won championships.
The Yankees have been spending big since the '70's but there have been plenty years when they were not competitive, and that's the difference the manager/coach makes. Joe Torre has done an amazing job handling the "Bronx Zoo." How many managers/coaches have the teams I mentioned earlier had during his run with the Yankees? It will be very interesting to see how the Yankees do absent the presence of a strong clubhouse veteran like Roger Clemens. Ditto for the Marlins absent Pudge.

The best statement about how important a great coach is, was made I believe about Bear Bryant. One of his coaching contempararies said Bear Bryant could take his 11 players and beat your 11, and then take your 11 players and beat his 11.

Too bad he liked to wear those awful hats!

He owned all of the Florida and Miami teams for a while. I saw him destroy so many teams that it was pathetic. The Dolphins could have won a couple of Super Bowls with Dan Marino if he would have put out a few bucks and got a decent runningback. He is probably the worst owner of all time. I think he got rid of al but 3 players after the first World Series victory. The only reason he isn't getting rid of them this time is because they are all staying for cheap pay, and he is losing money on the team.

Worse owner of all time:

In 1920, however, Red Sox owner Harry Frazee needed money to finance his girlfriend's play, so he sold Babe Ruth's contract to Colonel Jacob Ruppert's New York Yankees for $100,000 (plus a loan collateralized by Fenway Park).

Wayne sold the Marlins for $100 Million to Jeffrey Loria who may prove to be even more shrewd than Wayne. Read this assessement of his commitment to the hometown fans:

http://www.harvardindependent.com/news/2002/04/04/Sports/Greed.Ball-228301.shtml

Wayne of course still owns Pro Player Stadium and the Miami Dolphins. The man knows how to make a buck!

Wayne sold the Marlins to John Henry(part owner of the Red Sox now) who then sold it to Lorria.

He has notinh to do with this team other than he owns pro player and the concession and parking, making it impossibel for any owner to make money with this team.

If they don't get a stadium commitment within a year or so, they'll be outta here.

While I don't agree with his dismantling the team after 1997, he alos did not have to commit to losing money either. I doubt anyone here would want to lose 20 million on a team that has no fan base to sustain it and a ****ty stadium lease.

If the Yankees don't win it big, I'll laugh my ass off.....again.

Wayne has proven repeatedly he knows how to buy low and sell high. He's more the investor than owner. I'm surprised he still holds on to the Dolphins.

The last thing Loria wants is a new stadium in South Florida. He will make far more by either allowing the franchise to fold (MLB is still looking to rid itself of two teams) or moving the team to Northern Virginia. Check out the link I posted earlier. This is the big leagues and it's all about money!

Heads will be rolling if the Yankees don't win big in 2004.

Hey Plantman A fellow forum member from Miami. I was born there and lived there till I was 11. I lived in a very bad part of town there. I lived on SW 257 Terr. off of SW 134th Avenue. Boy I had some fun times in Miami. If you don't mind me asking, where do you live there?

The reason he still holds on to the Dolphins is because he is a huge fan of theirs. He has always been a Dolphins fan, and he said he will never sell them unless he has to.

What the heck were you doing down there?

Military family near the base?

That area is actually booming with real estate development as is the rest of South Florida.

I live on 179th street and 148th avenue SW.
