In light of the discussion on mp3 sharing, I offer the following article.

Bah!
I own a ton of those "bleeding edge" vinyl discs! I will admit, those things require a reciprocating platform with a gimbal balanced cantilever that has attached, a specially-designed magnetic transducer head with a laser cut diamond jewel to decode the information! Unfortunately, the anti-piracy format severely impairs audio quality! I've been able to crack the code with my prototype "magnesium oxide poly-silicate magnetizer"... ...more commonly known as a tape cassette...

Geez Kuan,
Where did you go to find such an antique? They don't make those belt drives anymore! Last thing I saw was direct drive

I almost bought a Yamaha platter like that back in the mid-80's. What brand is it? Is it newer, or do "they" still make 'em like that?

They STILL make them like that... after figuring out that the old belt drive with outboard motor was best at isolating vibration. Add floating platter and you have a pretty good table.
You can get them for less than a big screen TV. www.sumikoaudio.net Kuan |

You guys are cracking me up!!
Kuan, That is one beautiful turntable!! Guess with clear base like that it will go with any decor you've got. I inherited a beauty from my dad. I only wish I knew how to make picture files under 50 kb so I could post a picture for you. It's a Denon DP 53-F that looks like it could belong in some museum of modern art. It has little light sensors the platform so it senses what size LP you've placed on it and self adjusts for 33 or 45 speed. Pretty cool. Like some of you older members (myself included, pushing 38), I have crates full of those older LPs. I'm trying not to sell them because a lot them are of music that was never transfered to CD format. Sad. |

Thanks Stefano
I have tons of LP's from garage sales. Most people don't know what they have and practically give them away. Most of my records cost me $0.50 or less! Kuan |

Hey sflori, is that a DP-53F or a DP35F? I've got a DP35F. Great turn table!
