1999-2002 Corolla?
Hi,
Does anybody here own either the 1999-2000 Corolla.. or the 2001-2002 Corolla? If you do would you share your experience with them? I have a lot of faith in Toyota especially when it comes to reliability - at least when they are new. I love the 300CD but i've done so much work on it that I kinda feel bad to use it everyday and expose it salt, etc. in winter. Right now I'm thinking that maybe a second hand Corolla would be great! My other option would be to sell the 300CD and get a newer car (500E ) and have yet another 'garage queen'. I know i know.. completely opposite choices (500E - Corolla) but I have to factor in the costs of insuring two cars, maintenance, parking (expensive), etc. I'd love to have a basic model 2001-2002 with Manual transmission. I don't even need power windows I think I can live with manual crank windows. The 1999-2000 MY Corollas don't look as good as the '01-'02 but they are still better looking than the 2003's Thanks!

The Corolla's been pretty much the same from 1993 onwards, till this year. Minor changes, sure, and some minor refinements.
I remember that a 1998 Corolla with a 1.8 liter and 5-speed did 0-60 in 8.2 seconds, in Car and Driver. You might want to save some serious cash and buy a 5-year-old car with service records, maybe "Toyota Certified Used" or whatnot. -Sam |

We have two corollas and I treat them as an appliances very realiable car thou.On our 96 corolla w/100k miles the only thing we replaced is the starter and battery never had a transmission oil change.

When I used to work for Hertz Rental cars, I was always impressed w/ the Corollas. They were beat to hell but aged well through the 30K we kept them. Quite slow though. To be honest, I liked the Ford Focus better. Faster, better looking, better handling.

Browsing through Fastlane and other Worldpac based parts retailers, the 1999 Corolla's parts are in general more expensive than my 1983 300CD......
I saw a nice champagne 1999 Corolla LE with 5-Speed (). As soon as I'm done with my last Quantum Physics midterm I'll go and take it out for a spin if it ain't sold yet. if it is.. then it wasn't meant to be mine

HAHA
My sister drives a 1999 Corola LE. Just crossed 75,000 miles and still puuuuuures. It even went a week with no (read: NO) oil in the engine and still runs smooth. Like the saying goes, "Drive a Toyota through hell, change the oil, and you've got a brand-new car."
