My first computer question!

What is the easiest way to partition my hard drive. I want to go about installing Windows ME and XP. I have a HP Deskjet 842c printer about a year old and it doesnt want to work with XP no matter what I try...even with the drivers from the website. So I am planning to use ME to print

help appreciated!

ohh....for the printer....in XP when i click print it does nothing and there are no error messages.

with printers being pretty cheap.....u might also just opt for a new printer all together

partition magic is real easy to use

give hp's tech support a try...they have some for u thats not documented anywhere

i usually let xp discover my device and install its own driver....if it prints i could care less where the drivers come from...have an older Lexmark Z52

try the windows 2000 drivers....hey u never know...alot of times when there are no xp specific drivers i'll opt for a win2000 driver and have no problem

good luck

You might want to check in your BIOS your parallel port's mode. ECP is sometimes required, but is more complex and you may wish to set it to bi-directional 'standard' mode.

good luck!

I don't think I would run two different operating systems just to run a printer--sounds like a lot of potential trouble, and wasted hard drive space. I'd eBay that printer and get something else, if I were you.

There must be some issue with that printer -- all HP deskjets are certified as WIN-XP compatible. You're sure that there isn't a problem with the communication to the printer, like an improperly set communications link in the parallel port itself?

ME is a horrible OS -- do you have Win98SE. ME is definitely an OS to avoid.
