Quit Smoking?
 

This may sound rather odd but here goes: My daughters car, 92 Plymouth Acclaim w/ 3L v6 gas engine has 118,000 miles on it and is beginning to smoke. Due to ca$h flow problems I need to stretch the life of this car out a little longer for her. Rather than a valve/valve seal job (or maybe more serious problems) I believe I heard a while back that synthetic oil burns smokeless(???) Can anyone confirm or deny this? The car isn't really worth socking a lot of money into at this point, but if I did and oil change to synthetic, and added only synthetic, it might reduce the embarrassment factor a little for my daughter. Any thoughts? The car only smokes really bad when oil is full, if I keep about 3/4 quart low it isn't too bad. If I get no replys I will try it and let you know what happens. THANKS Matt C.

Very interesting...I was getting ready to do a stem seal job on this Honda I got to sell. It smoked on start up only, and seemed to get worse as the temp outside got cooler. It runs great, very strong except for the smoke on the initial start up. But it only did it in on warm up (couple of minutes) then it would go away. I tried this "smoke be gone" stuff for a couple of bucks before pulling the rocker arms. Yikes! It actually made the car smoke like some valcano! It never stopped smoking and I almost put on a gas mask!

I was talking to a tech friend of mine who mentioned the syntec oil may help. So I figured I'd try that right before I do the steam seal job. I'll try it tomorrow and let you know what happens. I'd be interested to hear what others think about syntec helping the problem on this board.

Cheep valve seals will definately help, but not for too long.

Do a search on "de-carbonizing" here, that might help.
