Wink Funny how things work out!!! (A dog story)

Since losing my beloved BenzE, I have been searching for his successor. My wife and I decided not to try to raise another puppy, but to instead adopt a rescue dog. We have both scoured all available resources for Binchon Frise, Maltese and Havanese in need of a permanent home. Sent off several applications only to find I was too late or "didn't qualify" (turned down for adopting a dog???).
Yesterday I carried the wife to Warner Robins, Ga. for a doctor visit. On the way out out of town she said she had heard of an animal clinic that periodically fosters pets. Thinking we may get lucky I find the place and go in. We tell the nurse what we're looking for and she says she has a littlle dog we're welcome to look at. In the exam room she opens a cage.

A brown creature about the size of a Gum Swamp rat leaps into my wife's arms and buries it's head in her hair. It's trembling like it freezing, scared or both.

Guys, I haven't seen the wife's blue eyes light up like that in a looong time. I couldn't say no.

Meet Sandi... can you say "Yo Quiero"?

congrats on your new dog!

Just don't forget that chihuahua(sp?) dogs do that trembling thing naturally. Is your dog a pure breed? Pure breed or not.. its a one fine looking dog

She is listed as a Chi mix. That's ok, I'm a mix too!:p I wouldn't want a dog with a better bloodline than me!! She barks in Spanish so I don't know what she's saying. She's a live wire though, I gave her a bath last night and it was like trying to drown a squirrel!!

I cannot say enough about rescue organizations. They take abused/neglected/unwanted animals, house them, give them the best medical care and ask only that the adoptor help pay expenses and PROMISE to give them a good home. Sandi has been spayed, is current on all vaccinations, is parisite free and has had a rabies shot. She has been tested for heartworms and was negative and given a preventive. She's 17 months old, is house trained and lease trained. For all that, all I paid was a $50 adoption fee for her. Bless all those good animal lovers out there.

Hey, congrats on the new dog!

She looks like a great dog, and I'm sure you'll soon have some good stories to share with us.

Glad that you got another dog. Nothing can replace the one that is gone but this one will be a story on its on. By the way I am a transplanted Georgia boy. Lived in Marietta and Griffin as a kid many years ago. Love your dog because they are the only thing I know that really loves you without conditions attached, at least this side of heaven.

Paul; I do not intend to try to make this dog into what I did with BenzE. Other than looking at BenzE's grave everyday, the biggest heartache I have for him is that I put his life on public display on this forum. Every time I log on I think about him because he lived in my world and in this one. There is danger in being over exposed and I have to deal with that now. There will never be another BenzE, and I don't think I want there to be one. I do, however, have to have a dog, and Sandi is "the pick of the litter".

On a lighter note, I understand you plan to come to "Jaw Ger" in February! Let us know and I think Engatwork and El Pres and I can arrange to show you some "Southern Hospitality"!! As Bob Barker says, "Come on down!!"

Cool Congratulations on your new buddy...

We've done the rescue thing for years with schnauzers. The right dog usually picks us. Got two of them now.

Thank you for being such an animal lover, the world needs more of us. My wife recently "adopted" a 5 year old blind cat nobody else wanted who has turned out to be the best pet we could have wanted. Smart cat, knows his way around the whole house and can find us within about 2 minutes anywhere, doesn't know whether its day or night though which makes for some early wake ups!! Still, he puts out so much love and trust we don't care what time he wants his breakfast!

me too

Tim,

I have one of those cats and a dog that puts out inordinate amounts of love.

the cat used to be a grouchy self sufficient cat that didn't like to be touched. when she was about 5 a dog attacked her and injured her quite badly, but she fully recovered. it was the strangest thing, now she is the most affectionate thing you can imagine. loves being touched, and touching. she'll let you do anything, she's like a rag doll.

then our dog, was abused before we got her. we got her at a shelter. even today she still flinches and backs away if you reach quickly for her head, or if your leg moves towards her fast, evidence she was hit and kicked. but she loves humans more than other dogs, she will stand up and literally hug you, put her both arms over your shoulders and kiss you.

there's something to be said for people like you who take on animals that are not your perfect pure bred whatever that you buy at a show for a few hundred dollars.

Two of our three mutts came from the local shelter. The third came to us through an individual rescue. All three are a blast to have!
A friend I work with rescues stray cats & dogs. They (he & his girfriend) have adopted several since I have been working with him. The ones that are not adoptable stay with them.
